I’m not sure I follow. We all know that what Matty charges for shipping is INSANE. That says, AJ seems to be charging for the shipping TO US (since he’s ordering early) and adding the cost of THEIR shipping into is total. If AJ makes anything, it’ll be a couple of bucks, a LOT LESS than he could probably make working one hour at his day job.
So I say extra thanks, AJ, and if you ever happen to be in Florida, your first beer’s on me.

Well, like I said, the charge for shipping FROM MattyCollector, which I agree is normally higher than what it is, is about $12 (according to what SONICR posted).
To ship half that distance, I was going to be charged $30 from AJ.
I appreciate what he’s doing, but I didn’t like the way it was being portrayed as barely making any money. He’s making plenty on this, I can guarantee you. I ship things every day. These things don’t cost $30 to ship. Not even close.
And just so its clear, again, I have no problem with AJ making money. I just didn’t like it being portrayed as a “goodness of his heart” thing, and barely making money. That’s not the case.
And I’m not trying to go off on a tangent every time… since you started your post with “not sure I follow” I simply wanted to clarify what I was saying. Not trying to flood this thread with posts about what I was saying. AJ himself even admitted that he’s making money here, so there’s no major issue.
Do I really need to list out every single expense in order to show you I’m barely making a cent?
And I’ve shown conclusively that the more you order from MattyCollector… the price per item shipped actually goes up.. NOT DOWN.

Yes. I am making a few bucks. But I am also doing this for the good of others. I am using my Early Access from a subscription (that I didn’t want, and cost me $200 alone) that I purchased expressly for the purpose of getting early access to this sale. I am ordering these for fans so they can get a stab at them before anyone else, and lessening the risk of the item selling out during early access… which is could still do.
No one is forcing you to purchase it through me. You keep stating I was overcharging you by making it $30 for shipping. I’m pretty sure you were given an option that was $10+ cheaper than that via UPS. To sum it up. If you don’t want to pay the price I’m charging… you don’t have to. The possibly $5 I am going to make by taking the time to ship these out is not really worth the hassel of explaining it all out to you.
Everyone else that has placed an order. I have ordered enough to cover most of the orders. More and more orders keep trickling in, and I’m waiting until it gets up to 10 to place another order.

But, as for the cost of items shipped going up? That never happened when I ordered several of them. I saved a lot on shipping.

Its a dead issue to me. If people want to pay more for it for the guarantee of getting one, that’s good. Like I said I was very much considering it myself.

The whole original point was that I didn’t like that the $20 was described as “to cover Mattel’s shipping to GBFans” as I felt that was very misleading. It was not about suggesting you shouldn’t be allowed to make money. Its fine to make money turning them around. Plenty of people do it. I’ve done it in the past. Ok. So you are an expert because you sell stuff on eBay? You seem to have an understanding of everything that I am doing and everything that is going on without actually having any of that knowledge.
You claim you have never seen the prices go up while ordering. Are you ordering 1 or 2? Or are you ordering more? I highly doubt your limited experience applies to a situation that I have researched and analyzed extensively.
And here we go. I’ve wasted 30 minutes making this graph for you. This is the cost per Ecto Goggle for shipping via USPS or UPS. The cheapest point I decided to go to is when you order 149 Ecto Goggles… the price is $3.11 via USPS. But you want to order 150? That will cost you $4.64 each. (Price per unit INCREASES as you increase your quantity).
It is in fact cheaper to buy 10 Ecto Goggles per unit than it is to order 11. As is it cheaper to buy 6 instead of 7. The pattern repeats.
Overall. Yes it gets cheaper when buying more. But only on the macro scale with economy of scale. On the micro scale, where every single one of us is buying in… it isn’t always cheaper when increasing the quantity.
(And keep in mind you thought it would be best if I shipped the items directly from MattyCollector? Look at the start of the graph for the price of 1).

One final time, I DID NOT CARE THAT YOU WERE MAKING MONEY. My issue came from the fact that you were seeming to imply you weren’t, by saying that the $20 premium was just to cover shipping to you. You cleared that up right from the start by admitting that you were, and so that was the end of the problem for me.
I really can’t make it any more clear than that.
I love it when people say “there’s no need to discuss further”, and then they discuss it further.
Pretty much everyone in the thread is happy to pay a little extra to guarantee getting one of these. And if AJ makes a buck or two for his time and effort, so much the better. You seem to think there was something nefarious going on, or at least “misleading”. You even called into doubt the AMOUNT that AJ was making (or charging.)
Doc Venkman, no one is making you spend the money… and honestly? It wasn’t your place to explain how AJ conducts his business affairs when someone asked. That’s AJ’s territory.

For those that may need some more closure to this, AJ and I have just had a discussion through PMs (where this probably should have all been in the first place) that cleared up a lot of things.
I apologized to AJ, and apologize here, for any sore feelings or things that may have felt like accusations. That was never my intention (and there was even something regarding shipping that was entirely of my own incorrect remembering that caused me to think the charge was a lot higher than it was).
So even though I said it before, I’ll say it again, I do think it is very cool of AJ to do this for people.
To be clearer. Doctor Venkman was assuming I lived much closer to him in Michigan rather than where I actually live in Colorado and was basing his shipping estimate off of that. Which is why he felt I was overcharging people and making more than a few bucks off of each order.
I still maintain that I am basically getting nothing out of this. It is much more work than the payoff for me is… I am doing it for the good of others out there in the community and not doing it with the express intent to make money.
This is completely correct, and entirely my own fault. No idea why I thought that, but that explains that.

I want this (2 in fact) but despite the convenience and guarantee, adding $20 to something that is already feeling horribly overpriced did not appeal so I will just wait and hope there are some left. But thanks for the offer, I did consider it! How many did you end up getting orders for or is that classified info? And is there any way to tell at the moment just how high demand seems to be?
I won’t be playing with my ecto goggles until after I get home – next year. I’m not going to have them shipped to a deployment zone, and very likely get broken.
