I just went on Yahoo where they have the GB game highlighted on one of there news headlines and they have it titled with something along the lines of “main character not doing game” but they say the 4 GBs will be back but no Rick Moranis…because he doesnt need the money thanks to the success of Honey I Shrunk The Kids.
I didnt think that movie did that great…or was that great. but still…WTF RICK!?
Personally, I find myself wondering why anyone would want Louis Tully to come back. The character outlived his usefulness after GB1, his part in the second one was lame.
I think Louis had some great lines/moments in GB2. Even if Moranis didn’t enjoy the experience/outcome. A lot of the good stuff I think is on the cutting room floor too. :vinzclortho: It’s like the first good stretch of RGB, I don’t mind that he’s not back that much.
What the article didn’t mention, as well as other outlets, was that a primary reason Rick retired was because his wife passed away… but one of Sierra’s head honchos made a unfair comment that Rick’s lack of participation was because he’d become loaded thanks to the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids franchise.
True. His country music isn’t all that bad either, so it looks like he’s at least enjoying himself.
Another catalyst for his retirement I’d heard was that Rick didn’t like the type of roles he was getting. He was being handed all these parts, but he didn’t have the freedom to work them out and make them his own like he’d been able to do for Spaceballs and Ghostbusters. And I don’t think he actually hates Ghostbusters. I can’t remember where, but I recall an interview where he recalls the first movie fondly, but didn’t really mention the second.
Heh, even if Sierra’s comment is misplaced, you would think it true in the 90s when you had the Honey I Shrunk the Kids series, The Little Giants, My Blue Heaven, The Flintstones, and Gravedale High, it was almost like he ruled the comedy and family entertainment industry.
It may just be a character he doesn’t feel he needs to revisit. Even though it takes place in the early 90s, Rick Moranis said somewhere he was happy with his performance as Louis and thought he was fine but didn’t want to have to try and figure out who Louis is in his 50s…
There could have been a slight chance he didn’t know it would take place right after GB2. Or he just may not want to revisit Ghostbusters/Louis Tully.
Rick Moranis really made Ghostbusters the movie that it was. He was one of the key players that really without him, the movie probably wouldn’t have been so good. Sure.. I could do without him in GB2.. but I would rather not. Infact I would have loved to see him have a bigger role like in the deleted scenes.
There are a lot of reasons why he didn’t want to - he covers them all here. And when the game got announced, I asked him if he was participating, and he said that he was actually talking to them about it. So, this simple line of “he’s rich, so he said no” and the fact that it keeps getting parroted everywhere just bugs me. But hey, it’s the internets.
Great insight into a lot about Moranis there! GB2, I felt like the deleted bits would have
Made more of a connection with Janine. As it stands in the movie, the wanting to have dinner with her comes out of nowhere without him accidentally almost frying her. Would have made that whole thing better IMO. Where they have that conversation before she closes up.
The ongoing feud with Slimer. As it stands in the movie, he sees Slimer in the montage and then not again until the bus. It would have made more sense for there to be more there, him trying to catch Slimer a couple of times then when Slimer shows up on the bus to help him, it gives it more meaning.
More of a big thing with him suiting up to help the guys at the end.
I still wonder if I’m not going crazy that the deleted bits might have made it better. I guess maybe it was just slowing down the pacing, running too long? Chances are we’ll never know.
Sorry Zack, the link was more for everybody else - this Rick Moranis debacle has demonstrated that while there is overlap between all the main sites, it’s not total. So, you were my excuse to repost the one thing that explains everything about why Rick isn’t interested. I don’t expect Yahoo or Wired would bother reading the GB sites, but it’d be handy to keep all the fans on the same page.
If i could kill this flimsy story with thought, I would. It’s an ugly, petty bump in the road to having a Ghostbusters game.
Ah ok, Chris I kinda got that feeling come to think of it. AJ, I’m not familiar with GB2’s production dates/etc and cant talk to Ron right now, did they run out of time? Or anyone else who knows. That’d explain a lot.
