molding/Casting Question

Hey everybody, I’m working on my second Proton pack, which I’ll hopefully get around to starting a progress thread for soon, but in making it I know my ultimate goal is to make a mold of it. So I really have a couple questions about making the mold

  1. why doesn’t anyone cast the Ion arm as part of their original shell? what would be the advantages/disadvantages of adding it too the shell before making the mold?

and

  1. do you think 1 gallon of smoothon rebound 25 would be be enough to make the mold?

I think most people leave the ion arm off because most molds are a traditional GB1 hero shell. (Although a true Hero would not have an N-Filter.)

Nickatron is currently doing a GB2 semi-hero mold which will include the ion arm, booster tube, n-filter etc.

It’s mostly just preference.

As for silicone, you’ll need a minimum of 2.5 gallons but most likely 3-4 gallons depending on your mold making skills.

Bear in mind also the extreme change in the overall height of the mold by adding the ion arm. You’d have to pour your silicone differently.
