G’day everyone;

Thought I’d start this thread to show the progress of work on our Ghostbusters cosplay/impressions, certain events and if it helps others search for their own here in Australia. Although we are paying homage to the Original Ghostbusters, some of the kit/equipment we are making more “aussie”. We purchased the majority of the impression from GBFans.com, including the belts, overalls and parts for the proton pack. The boots are from MilitacAust Qld.

First kit scratch built was the belt gizmos (pictured below).

These were made from:

*Purchased 1980/1990 Telstra Telecom phones (that no longer worked) from various sellers on eBay.

*Holsters are Bluet Ngue measuring tape holster purchased from Sydney Tools in Orange NSW.

*UHU Super Glue (*This will be for ALOT of the “builds”) mainly purchased from Woolies in Orange NSW.

The gizmo was made by removing the telecom keypad from the shell casing, which came out in one hit and turning the keypad around for the large part of the gizmo. This was turned so the the keypad was super glued to the holster to keep the chip parts facing out and looking gizmo like, while still being able to be attached with the curly cord to the smaller “speaker” on the belt. The headset microphone and speaker were removed from their phone shell and super glued with the microphone being glued on top of the speaker and the curly cord attachment to microphone. A 3m hook was attached to the back of the speaker to attach to the belt.

Proton Packs.

G’day everyone;

below is the proton pack build, showing how I installed the lighting, sound kits and detailed the two proton packs that myself and mate will be using.

Parts:

*Proton Packs-Spirt Of Halloween Life Sized Packs purchased from Amazon (Aus).

*Alice frame for both Packs purchased from MilTac Australia QLD.

*Detailing and pack lights (Cyclotron & blue) purchased from SpongfaceMcGee eBay store.

*Wand & sound kit purchased from GBFans Shop with 40ohm speaker.

*Spirit LIFE-SIZE Neutrona Wand Track // Spirit Halloween Ghostbusters Proton Pack purchased from GreatScottPropShop Etsy Store.

*Duct Tape-garage

*UHU Glue from Woolies Orange NSW.

*Tamiya Color X-7-Red), X-11 Chrome Silver & X-12 Gold Leaf.

*8.8 bolts with nuts & washer.

*Dremel Tool purchased from Jaycar Shellharbour NSW (years ago).

*Soldering Iron purchased from Jaycar Shellharbour (years ago).

*Cable HU Red 13x0.12mm 25m Roll purchased at JayCar Orange NSW.

*Cable HU Black 13x012mm 25m Roll purchased at Jaycar Orange NSW.

*2x On/off switch purchased from Jaycar Orange NSW.

*Battery-DiaMec DM12-1.3(12V 1.3AH/20HR) Rechargeable purchased at Jaycar Orange NSW.

*PROTON PACK , GHOST TRAP , Ecto Goggles and Motorola MT500 radio Sticker Decal Pack purchased from ren_co50 eBay shop.

The Work:

After purchasing all the basic parts of A.L.I.C.E frame, proton packs; I purchased the detailing kit with sound and lighting kits from eBay and GBfans (see above). When they all arrived I started by soldering the red and black wires to the speaker and battery; to connect power to the sound board & have sound to make everything sure it would work as I went about the builds. I stripped the Spirit Halloween lights and sound from the pack & wand (keeping the screws to be reused).

I attached the blue lights with the cyclotron lights first as per the instructions and attached the ribbon cable to the sound kit. The ribbon cable from the wand to inside the pack had to have a slit cut into it to fit the ribbon through. The wand was the longest part.

With the wand I used various Dremel bits to cut out the holes needing for the lights, switches and cables. I tried to follow the instruction for the light kit, but it can be trial and error to secure some of the parts in a tight space. Made sure all switches would flick up for on and flick down for off. Originally had a rumbler using xbox motors, but they interfered with the operation of the lights and had to be removed for both wands. All the wires were secured and kept neat with duct tape, keeping them away from being crushed by where the screws are.

The speaker was placed into position and secured by the hobby wood and spear screws from the pack. Battery was held down by duct tape with foam padding (which was the pad from the back of the Halloween pack). Battery was soldered to the switch with power wires being soldered from the switch to the sound board. *Please note that the wires going into the sound board were not soldered directly to the board, but had soldered tips that were screwed down. The switch was placed on the side of the pack and was fitted to operate the same as the switches on the wand (up-on/down-off) after marking the dimensions and cutting out the hole for it using a Dremel.

8.8 bolts were used to secure the A.L.I.C.E Frame to the original back board from the pack and then screwed to the packs using the original screws.

The hole on the back was covered with a flap to access the batteries to recharge them. Sticker decals were used to replace or add details to the pack. To take the plastic look out I used Tamiya Color red to remove the pink wires, gold leaf for the brass areas and chrome silver for the metal areas.

Grey elbow pads are done.

3 Pairs of Strictly Stability, White Volleyball Knee Pads For Boys or Girls purchased from Amazon.

1xRust-Oleum 2x Ultra Cover Winter Grey Gloss Spray Paint purchased from Bunnings Orange.

1xRust-Oleum 2x Ultra Cover Flat Black Spray Paint purchased from Bunnings Orange.

The work:

I tried dying the Volleyball knee pads with fabric dye from Spotlight, but the material only went a wierd green. Next tried was light grey fabric paint from Spotlight and the fabric rejected it. So (although I didn’t want to), I had to purchase Rust-Oleum 2x ultra cover Winter Grey spray paint. Old water bottles were used to keep the pads standing while using the grey spray paint. This worked and it makes the fabric a little stiff but the color holds. I also masked off a square around the hole, to represent the black square just like in the first film and used the Rust-Oleum flat black.

Update 21 June 2024.

After purchasing from gbpatches.etsy.com for our personalised name and gb1 “no ghosts” patches; I spent the last week sewing them onto our overalls. We all got to choose which No Ghost logo to go onto our overalls; W---- chose Venkman, C— chose Stanz & W----- chose Spengler.

I used sewing pins to hold the name patches on and black string to attach. I had to use a mix of fabric glue (purchsed from Spotlight) & pins with red and black string, to hold the no ghost patches into place and were alot more tricky. There was some “pinching” in the corners of the nameplates as well as with the no ghost patches. I think we did a good job considering I’m not a professional tailor/alter and we are aiming for a more used “in a rush/amateur” look.

G’day fellow Ghostbusters;

Yesterday (Saturday 6 July 2024) myself & the team dressed up in our GB kit to have a field test of the equipment and gear that we have been working on so far, to see how they would go “out and about” in public.

Results as follows:

Public Perception - Very positive response from the public with lots of photos and questions, both from kids and kids at heart (adults). Some were confused, more needing to take a second glance/look. Even had some people yelling out with excitement from cars that went by “Ghostbusters!” and “The only decent movies in ages”. Alot of the public couldn’t wait to see us at more events. Photos attached are the only photos I received from Molong Stores, which is also on their Facebook page.

Equipment - All equipment went very well without breaking down after 6 and a half hours of walking around. The only minor works that were needed were- 1) The yellow pipe had to have velcro attached to the pipe and the overall to be more secure under the belts at the back. This was applied to all suits. 2) The alice frame straps were secured after one came loose. This was achieved by double knotting the top locking strap. 3) General wear and tear fixes (gluing the Spengler wand chair/holster back onto one of the proton packs).

Next equipment that we will be working on is the Ecto Googles, Ghost traps and PKE Metres.

G’day everyone;

just a major update as alot has happened since I was last on.

Events we attended:

Myself and the team were invited to a childs Birthday party whom is a major Ghostbusters fan by their parent; in Molong on 16 August 2024. All the kids attending loved “The real Ghostbusters showing up to the party” and the parent has stated “he still talks about it to this day”. We were very happy to attend and allowed the kids to hold/operate (under supervision) the proton packs. We would recommend listening to the parents needs/rules & allow the children to come to you if attending such events. Have a Working With Children Check Number (WWC) would also be highly recommended both for any event or orgainised visits. (NO Photos Uploaded-as part of the child protection act & to keep their privacy).
I attended Molong Village Markets on 7 October 2024. There were alot of questions and photos by both store holders & members of the general public. When asked about “where to find out more?” I direct them to GBFans.com. I even talked to one store holder about Sydney Supernova where they “met some of the GBFans that attended” (could that have been you?). No photos for this one as I didn’t have time to take photos while there, too many people.

3)Next event will be Halloween in Molong NSW.

Work recently completed (with photos):

We received all three PKE Meters from EctoPropsMX(Mexico). Very well made and I would highly recommend EctoProps for someone like myself, whom is not proficient enough with electronics to make them. They have completed the main equipment for everyone. (Photo attached).

2)Still awaiting on the post for one (1) 3D printed trap to build from the UK seller on Etsy (Benofkentprops).

Also worked on “No Ghost” logo for the car, just in case for Halloween. I traced around an image of the logo from Ecto-1 onto stiff white cardboard. I then used Tamia Balck X-1 & Red X-7 paints and brushed colored the logo by hand. I still need to laminated the card to seal it from the weather and cut the logo out. See photos.

With the car in particular, it’s our own car with our own “head cannon” to being another Ecto in Australia. The head cannon is as follows:

“We believe that an Australian Ecto would be a Holden vehicle being Australian made and owned (at the time). To honor the original Ecto-1 being sentient; the Holden Commodore is semi-sentient after being possessed by an ex-Holden racing driver, when the vehicle is operating a glow red in color and can be scene hovering/like mist over the Holden logo (radiator end). Unlike the Ecto-1, to accommodate for Australian conditions, a capture stream would be operated by one passenger through the radio antenna, while a second passenger/driver flicks a switch on the dash that flips the boot open where the ghost trap would be. As the capture stream brings the ghost/spirit over the boot, the ghost trap captures them and the boot snaps shut sealing the trap (where the second boot Holden logo would flash). When returned to HQ, the trap is emptied by attaching a cable into a second port next to the fuel cap, that transfers the ghost/spirit from the trap in the boot to the laser grid for storage and containment.”

What do you think? A bit zany but that’s what we like to think.

Happy Halloween!

Hope everyone had an eventful Halloween yesterday.

Halloween in Molong NSW was a big success, thanks to the shops, families and our local postie for orgainising the event. Halloween in Molong ran from 5pm (5pm-6pm for local business) to 9pm for hand out lollies and despite the weather; all the kids turned out in droves where many houses were out by 6:15pm or 7pm (house to house). We dressed up in the Ghostbusters kit and stirred up the main street in the morning and handed out lollies, with photos included if parents and kids wanted to take them on their device during the main event.

Merry Christmas 2024 & A Happy New Year For 2025!

Myself and the team would like to wish everyone a belated Merry Christmas for 2024, where we hope you and your families had a great and peaceful time. Have a very Happy New Year for 2025!

Only one Christmas Event was attended by myself as The Real Ghostbusters at Manildra NSW Christmas Party on 18 December 2024. Everyone else was dressed all festive for Christmas.

Events to be expected to attend in January 2025 is-The Parkes Elvis Festival which runs from 8 to 12 January 2025. We are looking at Thursday 9 January 2025 in the arvo to welcome the Elvis Express (that traveled from Sydney) to Parkes NSW and on the main day of Saturday 11 January 2025 which includes the Elvis Street Parade from 9am.

G’day everyone;

The Parkes Elvis Festival for 2025 with the theme of Easy Come Easy Go is officially over for another year. Running from 8-12 January 2025; we attended the Thursday 9th January to meet the passengers on the Elvis Express from Sydney NSW & on Saturday 11th January to attend during the Street Parade.

On Thursday 9th January - We arrived to meet The Elvis Express from Sydney NSW and as soon as we were on the platform at Parkes NSW; people were happy and surprised that “The Real Ghostbusters are here” and “How is Elvis? and have you seen him lately?”. Alot of people complimented us on the equipment and alot of photos were taken with Elvis fans and Elvis impersonators.

On Saturday 11th January - This was the main day where we attended for the street parade. Although we were not in the street parade itself, we were mainly around the brass statue of Elvis Aaron Presley both in and taking photos for all whom asked during the parade. Similar to Thursday, when the Parade was over alot of people wanted photos including the Elvis impersonators and they all appreciated our attendance. After the Parade and photos; we went to The Parkes Observatory “The Dish” for lunch. After lunch we took our own photos near “the Dish” and on the way out had more photos with questions on the way out.

Been a while since last post and that’s because there have been no events or real updates since The Elvis Festival.

The only real project that was finished before the festival was the ghost trap. It was fully complete on the 12th February 2025 and was made from the following:

*1xBody is a 3D printed kit (Trap/pedal/holster kit with V-hook) from Benofkentprops Etsy Shop.

*1xPowerfit 10m Fitted Recoil Air Hose and fittings Purchased From Bunnings Orange NSW.

*1x Box Of Aluminium foil from IGA.

*1xRust-Oleum 2x Ultra Cover Flat Black Spray Paint purchased from Bunnings Orange.

The main 3d body kit and pedal part were all spray painted with Rust-Oleum 2X ultra cover flat black spray paint. Followed by aluminium & bronze hobby paint for detailing parts. Aluminium foil was used within the box part to give the look of the laser grid within the trap. Orange cellophane was used for the screen. The Powerfit air hose & fittings were used for the hose link between the trap & pedal.

You should find out to Supanova! They’ll be a number of ghostbusters there and an Ecto or 2. June 21 and 22 in Sydney. I know its a hike but it’s an awesome weekend.

We have considered Sydney Supernova a couple of times, but never have the finances to travel. We did look at attending this years, but unfortunately one of our members has been sick all week and had to isolate at home. Maybe next year if all goes well .

G’day everyone;

Today I went to organise hospital visits (especially during Christmas time) with Orange Base Hospital, Orange NSW; dressed up with all the gear so that they understood what we have and can do. The representative stated he will bring it up at one of their next meetings and seemed very happy to go ahead, but would have to be approved by Directors/”higher ups”. Hope this goes well and I will keep you informed of any progress. While in Orange Base Hospital, the kids and kids at heart (adults) were very happy to see "a real Ghostbuster” with eyes opened wide and all positive when there. When one asked “what are you doing here?”, without hesitation I answered “Exterminating. Someone saw a cockroach on 3rd” (since Orange Base only has 3 floors).

Because of school holidays, I decided to continue to wear all the gear while we all in Orange NSW; at the local shopping center including Big W & EBGames. Lots of positive remarks and responses, including when at EBGames Orange from both staff & public.

Photos are the only public photos I can share, taken outside of Orange Base Hospital & outside EBGames Orange NSW.

Hope you are all having fun with family & friends during these school holidays.

*Edit 3 August 2025-The Hospital visits are a no go by Orange Base Hospital. “There would be to many legal (mainly child protection laws) and alot of red tape to pass such an activity”, was given by the hospital as the reason.

We attended The Parkes Christmas Parade & Carnival 2025 hosted by The Parkes Action Club on 6 December 2025.

We escorted Santa in the parade, where his ride for the night broke down and we escorted Santa on foot to finish. During the night we had many inquiries and photos with “Ghostbusters in training/fans”. We allowed kids (and big adult “kids”) under supervision to hold the Spengler wand for the photos and also acted as a spotter for Santa. Had lots of fun at the event before leaving by 7:45pm.

G’day everyone;

I’m writing this to state that we will no longer be posting on GBFans.

This is due to the increased social & political escalations both in Australia & the world. Myself & the team have discussed it’s better to continue as “private cosplayers” away from the internet influence; for both our personal privacy concerns and increased tension within society.

Everyone obviously knows about what happened in Bondi, but what people haven’t realised is it was all building up all 2025. Thanks to our political leaders causing this social tension through the media, our experience in the last three months even in the Central West of NSW has not been pleasant. People have become very anti-social and very angry. You will always get hecklers and bad people; but in the last three months (especially around Christmas 2025 time) we had more threats of legal action to death threats thanks to the media influencing people to hate. Majority of these unsociable people were kids aged from 4 to 16 years of age without parent supervision and adults clearly influenced to bait people into fights. For every good person whom enjoyed us being at events, there was 50 bad unsociable. This has taken a toll on all involved, and that is all if we can even attend events; which is a shame to write this as we had so much positive reactions previously. A lot of events have either been cancelled or never properly advertised; where we find out about it a week or two later. Because of all of this, I will be removing photos of us from previous events for privacy; with the only posts remaining related to “the builds” for others to be inspired/know how to go about parts here in Australia and the events with official advertising photos.

As stated above we will be continuing privately offline, but will not be posting our future activities on any internet site.
