Unfortunatley no welded nuts. they are just 2" L brackets
Masonry paint is meant for painting exterior walls (didnt know if anything was lost in translation) and is quite hard wearing and should give the surface of the pack a good seal from any bad spots on the fiberglass.
Ok no worries. I have a ton of those things already.
… My original wanted post stated that I was after the welded on nut. I’ll just have to watch this space & hope someone emails me from the original thread.
As roboprop said really, I used superglue to glue the nuts onto the brackets. You only need it to initially hold and stop the nut from spinning whilst you screw the bolt through it.
… Still a long way to go till I am 100% satisfied with the actual shell.
At least at this point in time it is looking better than it was. The shell will never be perfect due to the quality of it, but as most of you have pointed out; with abit of sanding/weathering in places it will looked like a aged/weathered pack. That is the look I am going for
Just keep filling and sanding until its smooth, but sand down the primer before you fill again… as you dont want the filler to stick to the paint, you want it to stick to the fiberglass…
Thats the hardest thing with shells… separately the parts are easy to sand. But once there together, its hard to get the leverage needed to do sufficient sanding!
Don’t kill yourself getting it too smooth. You want some of those areas to pick up the weathering. You’d be amazed at how horrible the screen used GB2 packs look up close, even when they were newly built the first time.
Not if you use the good stuff. Not superglue. I used no more nails to attach nuts to frames and it’s solid for stuff that I bolted onto the shell. I didn’t do this for the motherboard and shell itself. For that I used marsupials method with the bolts attached to the l brackets.
This is wrong. You could spend time on it to bring it back to a pristine look. However, its time consuming and involve putting more bondo or whatever putty you are using.
This said, you seems to be going for the used up look. A pack like this offers LOTS of weathering opportunities that you should take to your advantage. Damages looks great for this type of prop. Once you’re used to your weathered pack, you’ll always think something is wrong with them “brand new” packs out there LOL
You made a great job so far, keep up the good work. You’ll see, it’ll be worthed at the end
You know, there ought to be a thread on how best to secure various items on the pack to make it sturdy. For example, on your pics above, there appear to be dowel like projections below the power cell for attaching the power cell injector tubes. And on the spacer, one of the two rings at the top has a hole cut in the middle of it to insert the tube into.
It’s not possible as in most cases every shell is different. We can only share with eachother how we do it our own way. The dowel like projections you speak of were put there by westy I believe, as I’ve got a shell from the same seller which has two holes there instead.
