hi all i m gonna be starting my proton pack build very soon and need some advice. i m wondering what to make my proton pack out of to look as movie accurate as possible etc??? also where to get the bits i need to finish this product??? any advice on the whole first build will be very much appreciated
The movie one was made out of wood I believe. But the best looking I’ve seen on this forum was out of Styrene. That stuff makes an awesome looking pack.
Well, what I did before I even touched my first pack was basically read every thread in this section. I know there are a lot of them! It took me like 3 or 4 nights of reading, but go ahead and read through the 20+ pages and look at everyone’s packs. There are tons of new threads now that Halloween just ended. Take a look at my thread on my sig too… I just completed my first pack a few months ago.
I would not worry too much about accuracy on your first pack. If you look at my pack, I spend about 1 month and $200 making it from scratch, and it is fairly accurate. But people spend $1000+ and do not have fully accurate packs.
As for materials to build with, I suggest finding a plastic supplier and buying bulk styrene (search for it on the threads). After building my first pack out of foamboard (which is also an OK choice), I wish I would have used styrene or basswood.
A lot of the odds and ends can be found on the GBfans shop on this site! I bought all my wires and split loom from them and it was great!.

The movie packs were fiberglass shells. Many people have sold, do sell, and will be selling, both styrene (light weight and inexpensive) and fiberglass (a big heavier but durable and crisper details) shells.
