I wasn’t criticizing the style of the artwork. The design and feel of the new cover is indeed excellent, but the errors that have been mentioned are just too glaring and too pitiful that they must have been done at the last minute. I can actually forgive the lack of moustache on Winston, but having proton packs on the wrong way around? After all the effort that’s gone into the game, they could at least put an equal amount of effort into the damn cover!! :eyeroll:
Personally as long as the game itself is good I wouldn’t care if the cover was a picture of a steaming turd. No one will buy the game because Winston has a tash or not, or because of a couple of other ‘errors’ that may or may not be on the cover. I’ll buy the game if it gets decent reviews ( i.e. anything below 50% and I’ll have reservations) and if the demo plays well, not because the cover looks good or not.
i have to agree, it’s an awesome design but some of those mistakes are unnecessary and sloppy. It wouldn’t have killed them to check the design of the PKE meter they were drawing in, whether Winston has a mustache in the game etc. Kingpin did make a good point though about how difficult it will be to make out these details when looking at the box at actual size. I’m getting it on PS3 so I’ll have a real tough time making out the errors with their tiny ass boxes.
Maybe they’ll release these with the wrong details (PKE Meter, ect) and then realize their mistakes, go back and change the cover, but those of us who preordered the game and got the first batch will have the infactual covers, which now become highly valued collectors items? Or not, lol.
I do wish they would have gotten the PKE Meter right though, as I dont care much for the huge traffic-light sized PS2/Wii meter. But oh well, I reserved the game so I could play it, not stare at the cover
I don’t think anyone’s disputing the quality of the overall design. They do look awesome, that’s a given but the fact is they got sloppy on some of the details and it was enevietable that some of us nerds were going to notice.
It won’t matter on the actual boxes though 'cause the design will be so much smaller.
I don’t know about the toys or replicas, I can speak for myself and say I didn’t complain.
When you look at the cover and see glaring errors though that’s just sloppy. And really, this is the cover, the first thing people see. They got one of the characters likenesses wrong and they gave Ray a PKE from a different version of the game. It’s just sloppy. Does it take away from the actual game? No. but it is sloppy work.
One way of looking at it is that it is fairly commonplace in poster/cover art for there to be these kinds of flaws, it’s almost part of their charm (at least in the hand drawn type) but as long as the overall design is top notch and does it’s job it’s irrelevant… but it’s still there.
I personally resist jumping on any kind of nitpicking bandwagon, for example when people were complaining about Murray’s vocal performance I wanted to rip my hair out in clumps because a) the attitude that Murray lending his voice alone isn’t enough and that he must give a performance to rival the first film made me sick b) it was PURELY subjective.
This isn’t subjective, there are mistakes. It doesn’t matter because the artwork as a whole is fantastic but the mistakes are there period. Like I said above for the most part people aren’t complaining per se but pointing out the errors that we as GB geeks were always going to find. It’s when these errors ruin our ability to appreciate the artwork warts and all that we are getting overly critical and subjective.
Idk. I like the cover. It is flashy and eye-catching. However, it is kinda weird that they spent so much time and effort getting the ingame details correct, but then made a few mistakes when designing the cover. Plus, does the ghost behind slimer on the next gen covers look like it’s a wii character?..overall I think it’s great.
with the exceptions of a few minor “errors” that only ■■■■■■■■ fans would notice, I think it looks great (although the trap wire looks like it was photoshopped in very last minute with a bad texture job) - basically it has everything that anyone looking for the game is going to recognize, and the art pops with the logo, ghostbusters and even some ghosts - casual gamers/renters who didnt know this was coming out will see it and think “what is this? this looks relevant to my interests”, and of course most fans of the franchise will buy this (I put in a pre-order at my local Movie Gallery, and I NEVER pre-order a game) regardless… so I wonder why cover Winston has no stache but in-game Winston does have stache?
