No More Post Editing. - IMPORTANT UPDATE

Important Update

Following the feedback from some of you guys in this thread I have decided to add a few catches to when and how you can edit your post.

  • First of all. Unless the topic is locked. You always have 30 minutes to edit your post after you first post it.
  • If you are the last poster in a topic, and no one has replied. You can still edit that last post.
  • If you are the topic creator. You can edit the subject of the topic.. but you cannot edit the main message (unless it has been less than 30 minutes, or no one has replied since you created the topic).
  • If the topic is in the For Sale forum, you will always be able to edit your post.

I hope you guys are able to live with these new changes.

Sounds fair to me.

Sounds great

Sounds good AJ

Reasonable. Thanks for adjusting your approach.

I still don’t see the point in any of this, other than a way for you to exert some form of control.

Get the sand out of your ■■■■■■.

Yeah AJ, quick acting like you own the joint . . . . . .

wigger, it’s so you can’t talk shit and then go back and cover your shit by deleting it

@AJ

Why do you have a problem with people editing their posts? It’s a standard facility on pretty much any forum you care to mention.

From a personal point of view, I often like to go over posts and change the wording or punctuation where I feel it could be more tidy or accurate to what I’m trying to say. Editorship is a constant, ongoing process to people who care about their writing.

It’s not a book, it’s a message board. Proof read before you post, and if you don’t think you said it right after an hour then you shouldn’t have said it at all.

It was mostly started so people don’t post feedback and then go back and edit them muddying up the facts.

Then because people would start arguments and go back later and edit them muddying up things for moderators

Then…other…

But really that is it and you can take it or leave it.

Good thing there’s a Preview button.

perfect. thanks AJ

Sure is a lot of Mud around this place

Indeed.. xD

I understand why, but IMHO, it better to just regulate the troublemakers then everyone else.

I’ve gone back several times, and revised my wip thread, clearing up things that I either posted incorrectly, or things that I later learned were wrong, and did properly later on.

I’ve also gone back and added an additional pic, to make a post clearer, when a few months later, someone was confused by something.

If you’ve got people playing shenannigans, just bump them, or suspend them for a length of time, instead of limiting the disscussion flow here for everyone else.

Many of the posts are wip or build tips, and those do change over time, and I’d hate to see someone follow some old advise in a thread, and then later on find out that a later post had a better/more correct way then what was previously posted.

Another board I used to frequent also locked down editing, and once they did, they lost about 25% of their traffic, because people because frustrated by then new restrictions that were put in place, just like this. Something to consider.

(I also no longer post there hardly at all anymore, because my communication abilities are IMHO more limited there now, and so many of my freinds left for unregulated pastures that there isn;t much reason to revist any longer.)

To “fix” that situation, they started recruiting more mods, and gave them complete edit freedom.. that made the situation even worst, because people there felt that they were playing “favorites”.

For build tips threads, or build wip threads, IMHO this is a bad move.

Not my board, not my decision, but my .02…

Sounds good to me. Most forums I am a part of are like this. This stops people from getting pissy and removing all of their posts. I have seen this happen countless times.

That was the main reason for it.

this does not look good for my phobia of spell check… JK :whatever:

wahoo i called it!
