Paul Feig Hires Katie Dippold to Write New GB Movie

I may not agree with your assessment, but I totally agree with the bolded part. I was never suggesting that it would ruin the past stuff, which I hate when people say that. If anyone lets something new ruin how they feel about something older then they’re an idiot, as far as I’m concerned.

The third movie may be the worst movie in the history of film, it still can’t ruin the first two movies for me. I completely agree with you there.

we’ve all waited so long for them to finally decide to make another one, and then they pull this, they basically just slapped all of the loyal fans in the face and laughed.

I couldn’t agree with AJ and Craig more.

The 4th season of Arrested Development, while partially terrible, did absolutely nothing to tarnish the immaculacy of the first 3 seasons. New extensions of a franchise can’t sully precursors when the original is perfect. I don’t enjoy the early seasons of Seinfeld any less because the later seasons jumped the shark too often. The Blue Album isn’t any less comforting to me after hearing “Magic” sung acapella style in Pitch Perfect.

I want to see funny women on screen. I want to spend way too much money on sick ass female action figures. I want to soak up every leak from this story as it unfolds because it excites the hell out of me.

Watch Broad City, heck watch any episode of Parks and Rec (maybe even one written by Katie Dippold or directed by Paul Feig) and try not to laugh, bro. Seriously.

It’s 2014 and I’m sure as heck ready to see a team of gut-busting, slime-blowing, ass-kicking lady role models on the big screen. Now let’s all chill out and watch Freaks and Geeks already.

Well considering we have waited so long for something to materialize what’s to say that even this will actually come to light. I’m not surprised that it will be a reboot. Seems that is all Hollywood is good for these days. I would have preferred to have some of the original cast to have more of a role in behind as well as in front of the camera. Don’t really have a feeling one way or the other on it. If anything, just hope it is a solid script with good actors and actresses. Gender switch isn’t a problem with me. I was raised in a house full of women. I will of course always be forever loyal to the original films but let’s just see what happens. And if the movie turns out to be a dud we need to at least see it to find that out.

“…but whatever does come out of it will be a positive change for the Ghostbusters franchise.”

Right. Just like the Star Wars prequels and Indiana Jones 4 were positive changes to their movie franchises. :stuck_out_tongue:

Shhhhh! We don’t talk about those…

Im living proof you can. Its just uncouth to do so.

I haven’t read the interviews/articles, so the “alternate reality” thing a-la Abrams’ Trek IS the route they’re going for sure? As of now, at least?

If they HAVE to go the reboot route, then I guess that’s the best way to go about it, for the reasons you stated.

Paul Feig co-created Freaks and Geeks with Judd Apatow, so no issues there, that show was brilliant and had great comedic writing. but the idea of rebooting it as an all girl team really bothers me. I wouldnt consider myself sexist, because I was really liking the idea of 3 guys and 1 or 2 girls working together on a team, when that was being tossed around months ago.

Yes, it’s true. This cast has no dick.

Actually, I think the Star Wars prequels prove AJ’s point. They might not have been well received by older fans, but kids loved them, there was a major increase in merchandise, and from there was spawned The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels and now Episodes 7-9 and beyond. Didn’t hurt the franchise and I still love the OT (even the prequels).

A director of The Office, Mad Men, 30 Rock, and Arrested Development (who also happened to co-create Freaks and Geeks, one of my favorite all-time shows) is working with a writer who is young, smart, Upright Citizens Brigade improv trained, and has worked under Conan O’Brien and writes for Parks and Recreation?

And they’re approaching it with the attitude of “what if we just make it new? It’s always hard if the world has gone through this big ghost attack, how do you do it again? I wanted to come into our world where there’s talk of ghosts but they’re not really credible, and so what would happen in our world if this happened today?”

Count me among those intrigued with what that collaboration has potential of bringing if it happens to come to pass.

If this film ends up getting released, I look forward to the Story that you’ll likely end up writing where Peter, Ray, Egon, Winston and Janine give their opinions and reactions to the release of the film.

I’m not crazy about it being a reboot but I’ll give it a chance. Plus think about the new technology and props that will be built for the movie. A whole new array of things to build.

So if EVERYTHING is new…does that mean the logo is gonna go/change???

So many of you are beginning your thoughts with “even if it’s terrible…” or something similar and then trying to spin it positively as to making the other two look better in comparison or bring in fresh fans. Call me selfish, but I was hoping after all these years that if another movie gets made it would be one I (we) would all enjoy. I don’t want a different movie for the sake of keeping the franchise alive. I want to know what happened to my heroes over the last 2 decades before I invest in a new crew. I don’t want a reboot.

I’m willing to admit that even in a proper sequel I wouldn’t be thrilled with an all female next wave. Mix it up, fine. All women, meh. It’s not my idea of fun, sorry Mr Feig (who I never heard of prior to this week).

I liked what Ernie had to say about it today. It’s not what the fans have been hoping for, even if Sony thinks it’s worth it.

I’ll just go back to watching our fan films on YouTube. When’s the next Alabama Ghostbusters segment due out?

And I wish this could have come out after the Halloween season. Now everytime any of us go out in gear this month people are going to bring up this topic and frankly I don’t want to answer those questions or have those debates. Doesn’t mean I’m not gearing up though…

I’m just upset that I don’t get to see Ernie Hudson training the new recruits.

They could have set this films backstory up as big Gozer event, Egon passed on, Venkman left with Dana. Years later new franchise with new team. Cherish the old and embrace a new team with Kristen Wiig as leader.

I just hope they keep the gear the same. i fell in love with those designs. i’m just worried they’ll make it apple and mass-production looking.

I’m kind of warming to the idea of an alternate universe, but i really wanted a passing the torch movie, the whole franchise idea meant they could have worked in another city

but i kind of agree with Aj, no matter how bad this is, it will be a revival of the franchise which will either mean more ghostbusters which could be good, more people watching the originals and becoming new fans, if its bad it means the franchise is alive and will get rebooted again in future

still i can’t help remembering Bridesmaids, it had one or two hilarious moments and then the rest was “meh” you could take it or leave it, and i really don’t like McCarthy she’s not that funny…it depends entirely on her writing, she’s always playing the same role, fat chick, with jokes revolving around being fat, its just such low brow humor

Kristin Wig i like, i’dbe happy for her cast

I think the only real issue i have left now is why does it have to be an all female cast? if it was anyone else i’d guess it was to be polar opposite to the originals 4 men to 4 women, but Feig just has to have a mainly female comedy cast, it irks me he wouldn’t chose the funniest comedians possible to make a great movie regardless of gender, instead he’ll focus on the funniest women…The best comedian for the role should be chosen

But that all said, how many other times have we got the whole director/writer/script statement over the years? this could die a death in no time again…and if it does happen it could be good…its too early to tell right now
