Hi guys, here are some photos and a video (sorry for the bad quality) of the original Proton Pack power supply.
This model is produced by Powertec, the power supply seen in the picture is dated 1981.
I tested with FC2 ELECTRONIC EFFECTS Chaser Board + original JKL incandescent light bulb.

That’s exactly what I have on my current build I planned on wiring it up but wasn’t sure how. Have to say thanks for sharing this because now I could wire it up to use for my electronics. 
That thing is so tiny! 
You electronic guys make me sooo jealous sometimes. :lol: Let me get this straight: it’s used to convert the current to run the light kit, right? That thing has to be plugged in an outlet?
That’s right, the Powertec is connected directly to the card FC2 (without battery).
BEWARE, my power supply is set at 230V..

I’m fairly sure that they added those to display the packs and they weren’t on the packs during filming.
I Think That Was Already Present from the first Ghostbusters, as is the connector with the switch located on the motherboard.
My guess is that Powertec used to charge the battery pack located inside the proton of Bill Murray.
I’m fairly certain these were used in GB1 as well, theres a couple scenes on the roof top where you could almost tell something was there from the light shining through the gaps of the alice frame and pack. The only packs that I could kind of tell were on Bill’s and Dan’s pack, i’ll have to check again though. That’s a good assumption Legend i’m not sure if the lantern batteries they used were rechargeable though, it was either for that or as a back up safety device just in case the batteries died they had a alternative source of power for lighting. Your theory seems more logical then mine though.

I snagged a power cord off a loose power supply at Apex because it matches the colors and insulation from the cord on the Minnesota pack. The colors on your cord are slightly different and I’m electronically impaired so what colors on my cord would represent the brown and blue on yours? It seems the green is the ground wire, which is probably the same on my cord. I was hoping to have the Powertec to be able to power the FC2 board, R2Devo lights, and amp but I’ll need probably 9-12 volts for that. I’m not sure if all of this would work on only a consistent 5Vs. What do you think?
The originals used motorcycle batteries. I’ll have to do somemore research on the photos I have. In one of the pictures the pack is torn apart and has two of those power supplies side by side inside the shell and one has a yellow sticker on the side of the power supply with 6vdc 3amp 15.00 handwriten on it . I assumed it was ws display purposes
The wires visible in photo have the following settings..
White: Negative
Green: Ground
I state that are not an electrical engineer, but what about the power I do not think that the 5V or 6V is enough, the ideal would be the model POWERTEC 2B24-1.0B identical to the 2B5-3.0b, but with a more powerful output (output Range 18.0-25.2 VDC ratings 18v at 1A or 20V at 1A)
To use this template you’d need a small circuit to decrease the output voltage.
Yes, I understand what you mean, it would be great to be able to find the original batteries.

Can I ask, what xlr and DC input are accurate for the pack? Do they connect in anyway to the powertec?

I just stated what was visible in the pictures I have, 6vdc 3amp obviously enough to run the lights. Planet Hollywood had them on display and had the lights going. Most of the chips used were probably 5v cmos some were eproms which run at 4.5-5V. We really are mixing apples and oranges because the FC2 board was used on the second movie built heros.
The XLR plug was the way to charge the batteries then Planet Hollywood or Sony put in the power supplies. to run them during display. The pack currently in the Sony Lobby was on display at the Phoenix PH in a freestanding glass case with all sides shown, that’s why the power supplies were put inside, The PH Mall Of America pack was displayed against a wall so they put the power supply where it would not be seen tucked in behind the pack frame.
That’s pretty much what I believe.
Oh the transformer on the power supply in the pictures I have is copyrighted 1984, which you would think, oh ok it was put in there from the first movie. Wrong. The movie was in production since atleast 1983 probably 1982. The hand written sticker on the power supply suggests that it was bought at a surplus store or went through one heck of a fast manufacturing, to surplus ,to being installed in a pack and then used for filming within six months.
You guys amaze the shit outta me.
About 2008 it was for the bluray release.
Brent is right I just double checked the Bluray and on Bill’s pack specifically at 1:30:26 you could clearly tell no power supply was there, There are a few other scenes with Dan’s hero where you could tell there is no power supply either. But all the heros did have the bent aluminum bracket with the XLR connector, DC input, and on/off switch in GB1. There is a few scenes just on the roof top where I confirmed all of these brackets on Venkman’s, Rays, and Winstons hero. Still was a nice find nonetheless and cool to have anywho.

You’re right, it is visible in the screenshots below, there was just the aluminum bracket with the XLR connector ..
The Powertec will only “Planet Hollywood accurate” ..
I confirm that doing a comparison of the cyclotron, guessed is clearly the lack of FC2 board in the “hero proton pack.”
