HI! Im new here so forgive me if this has been covered some where.. I looked but dident see it.. anyways getting to the point. I was wondering how accurate the plans are on here.. ive been looking for two days now and its just somthing im curious about before I start building. Im doing this all from scratch so I figure if im doing this I want to make sure im doing it right from the start. Thanks in advance!
A good rule of thumb, if you ask me, is to use both Venkman71’s plans and Stefans to guide you. Stafans do contain a few “off” measurements and Venkman’s don’t cover as wide a range of angles as Stefans, but both used together about cover every instance of the Proton Pack, and will help to keep the errors or unincluded information to a minimum.
Just remember to take your material thickness into consideration when measuring. Whether you are using 1/4" MDF or 1/8" styrene or what ever your choice of materials is.
Stefans plans don’t include:
Draft on some of the upper parts
Correct “rib” layout and design
Correct “shelf” on the powercell
Correct HGA diameter
Motherboard doesn’t match the parts
Correct EDA disc location
Correct tube diameters
Correct injector tube assembly
Correct “cakepan washer” locations
Correct guntrack and gunbody dimensions.
The list goes on…
I have a more accurate version in CATIA that I might put out in plans, so if you need a measurement, PM me.
cool! thanks for the help! I was planning to use a bit of both so im glad that plan hasent changed.. as for the materials im using im still not 100% sure… I would love for it all to be aluminum but thats kind of out of the question.. so right now im starting with wood and ill see how it goes from there..
Basically when I make my pack I just use Sean’s plans modified (curve by injector tubes, etc.) to fit Colin’s mobo.
You should do it.
Post 'em up, I mean. There’s so much talk about updating and fixing the plans. You could be the hero.
WE COULD BE HEROES!
JUST FOR ONE DAY!

Needs weathering.
I kid, I kid. Looks spectacular, actually.

You might get some of those nutballs. But in the long run, new plans will lead to even better, more accurate scratch builds and kits, so it’s for the betterment of the community. It’s pretty much common knowledge at this point that the plans aren’t accurate, but not so common knowledge as to what extent. It just seems time for a new generation of plans. No disrespect to the creators of the awesome plans we have now, which have served admirably.
I personally would love some plans that say somthing like.. MOST ACCURATE OUT THERE! Then again I would also love for the partical thrower plans to be updated.. If someone updated the plans you would be my personal god. Im just about to build and if the promise of new plans is there then I might as well wait.
Side note… ive got my wood for the mother board and I have about half the demensions on it
ill try and get a camera and do a detailed photo album while I build. The only spot ive ran into problems with is that the plans could have better refrence points for the demensions.. also that really small curve at the top.. that thing is killer, in the bad way I mean…
There are plans being created on another forum dedicated to researching every possible detail using additional photos and information. New plans from the ground up, not updated Stefan plans. The goal is to have something that is created with community input.
So we’ll have two new sets of plans, that’s awesome!
I can put the pack plans on the back burner in order to pop out way more accurate gun plans…though anyone that sells gun kits will have a stroke when they see them…
