Plastic Proton Pack?

Hi guys!

I’ve been lurking the site for a day or two, reading up and what not on building my first pack and I think I’ve come up with an idea… having glanced at Venkman71’s and Paranorman’s plans and being intimidated by the idea of working extensively with wood and/or metal, it occurred to me that I live right around the corner from a TAP Plastics store and my roommate owns a dremel.

Has anyone ever tried or experimented with using plastics for a pack? I’m thinking I may try to follow the general idea of the movie packs, but if necessary/preferred I may stray from the design. I picked up an ALICE frame and was debating between aluminum or wood for the motherboard when this idea of a(n) (all) plastic pack came into my head…

A lot of people have used HIPS (High Impact Plastic Styrene) for building proton packs by either cutting and assembling or by the process of vacuum forming. Another alternative is foam board, which is much cheaper and easier to work with, although it will not have quite as nice of a finishing result.

Browse around some more and you should be able to find plenty of examples of these methods. Best policy is get familiar with the search function and Read, Read, Read. Good luck on your build and welcome!
