I just got the trap kit for the lights and servo.
The ribbon cable for the LED display is in the reversed position to how they say it should be in the instructions, AND there’s no way to flip the cable from how they glued things into the board. So I’m not sure what to do on this one.
Also, the switch for the servo board that controls the speed isn’t soldered in at all. It actually fell right out after opening the package.
What exactly should I do to get this to work?
Pictures would help diagnosis.
Well, the diagnosis for the switch is simple.. it isn’t soldered in at all and fell right out. I"m not sure how pictures would help.. As for the ribbon cable, they want the red wire on the right, but it is on the left in how it came to me.
I don’t know how to upload pictures here, but if I did, I’d show you what they have in the instructions that came with it. The simple matter is, what they say to do, is the opposite of how it came to me.
Why not pull the ribbon cable off of the board, turn it 180 degrees and plug it back in. I agree pictures would be a big help. Upload pics to a photo site like photobucket and cut and paste the “img” code. I assume you have the servo controller and light kits.
Yeah, I got both. The problem as to reversing the ribbon cable was that I COULD NOT pull it off the board. I had considered that first, and attempted it, but there was a major issue. The one latch I needed to release it was covered with hot glue that they used to secure the tops of a lot of the wires. So flipping it or reversing it was impossible.
I got in touch with them and they said that the cable could go either way, but gave me a few fixes if the LEDs didn’t work. Wound up just having to reverse the way the bar was installed into the trap.
So wait… the problem was the lights were going the wrong direction?
RTFM. If your saying the ribbon cable was glued to the pins, you could have used rubbing alcohol to release it. I’m still not understanding what’s going on here. I have the same kits and it was fairly easy to set up.

I’ve worked with many Hyperdyne and Exoray light kits. ( In fact that’s MY trap you see on the Hyperdyne webpage for a video of a working trap. ) In many cases where people, self included, think that the kit is wrong I later find that the kit was right and it was a simple misunderstanding of how to do the logic on it.
Now I can’t speak for the piece that fell off of course, but like stated above, pics would help. 
…and yes, the polarity of the LEDs is sometimes a factor. Reversing the leads could be a common cause for non-operation.
