So, I noticed on the plans that the proton gun mounts to the pack via a “Dixie Cup” mounting bracket. Does this mean that any Dixie Cup machine, even ones you buy in stores today, have these brackets? Or, is this a bracket that Dixie used in the past, and is no longer the norm (i.e. now they’re plastic or something.) Does anyone know?
I found Metal Brackets on dixie cup holders, but they are different. I would suggest going down to where they sell water purifying equipment and checking it out. They should be no more than $15.
I used something called a flush mounting bracket that I found at ACE. They come in packs of 2, and it holds the gun pretty well. plus the way it is designed allows me to remount the wand while wearing the pack
I don’t know if there are any other international prop builders here, but I’ve never heard of a dixie cup. Actually, alot of the items mentioned on the plans are not avalable in Australia, which makes it a little hard. But you get to run around looking for suppliment items, which can be fun!
Dougy - the dixie cup is, like a little paper cup you might find next to a water cooler. They’re small and meant to be used once, then thrown away.
Dark Jedi - do you happen to have a pic of the gun mount you used, or do you have a link to the page on Ace Hardware? I looked for it online, but had no luck.
I know exactly the brackets Dark Jedi used, because I used the same type of bracket. It’s basicly used for mounting heavy pictures and mirrors, so you should be able to find them with the picture hangers of most hardware stores. These take up a lot less room than the Dixie Cup method, and allows the gun to mount more flushly up against the pack. Though I should add that it’s a real pain getting the gun back on the pack while wearing it, but on another note, they are much easier to find than the Dixie Cup brackets, and they’re cheep.
Dude, that’s awesome. Thanks for providing the pics for reference. I’m gonna try and find them this evening at Home Depot, cuz I need something by this weekend in order to attach the gun to the pack.
