proton pack bellows pics

I just picked up a bellows and a grey knob from mxlplx on another board…I took pictures of the bellows for anyone interested in its details…I just noticed that the bottom has some stamping details on it . I guess this part and “Ghostbusters” were meant to be…There’s a little “GB” on it…Coincidence…hmmmmmm

You can I must have bought the same package from the same seller, as I also got the bellows, Clippard valve, grey crank knobs, and a bag of other goodies. The GB is not Ghostbusters related. The top and bottom pieces were welded onto the bellows the create a simliar look to the movie piece, and whatever they were originally used on had the GB on it.

I’m sure he already knew that.

shit!!! i missed that. i am now a sad panda

no…i didnt know that…thanks Krenzy…i didnt even know that the original piece was a bellows…I always thought it was just washers stacked…My other pack has the nicely machined exoray piece on it…I was stoked to get this piece. I wonder how many sets this dude had…It was a steal considering it had the grey knob in it also.

This Bellow was actually made using real bellows material, and then end caps were welded on. If someone could find a source for the bellows material.. a run of these could be done again.

I wonder what the end caps were sourced from. The UL indicates that it is an electrical component.

EDIT: Well that wasn’t very hard..

Its a KO (Knock Out) Seal.

lets do it!

Yeah these were made by an old ASAP board member (Gav?), they are made from similar corrugated tube and those knockout seals. There are significant differences to the found ones used on the hero packs, but certainly look the part.

The ion knob profile I designed (sold by myself and Flynn was based mostly on photos and some info taken from similar corrugated tube. My most recent profile, which Jason uses for replicas now, is based off photos and measurements from the correct found bellows used.

Wow, that’s a great find. Can anyone point me in the direction to buy one, or to do more research on? Love this stuff!

Whatever happened to the ASAP board? Does it still exist somewhere?

damn those look really good!!! I hope someone can mass produce these and get some of them to our members!

those look amazing!

Nevermind. I found it.

If anyone can show me where to buy the corrugated tube.. I will have these made.

Only places I’ve seen them are your typical manufacturing sites..

ameriflex.net, metalflexbellows.com, supaflex.com, bhastrikbellows.com…

Jason will be producing more ion knobs with my new specs, they’ll be pretty much as close to the real thing as you can get. Though not the same materials as the original (material of the corrugated tube still has not been 100% identified).

I have found several manufacturers who carry similar tubing.

John, do you know the OD of them? 1" seems a little small.. and Stefans plans call for 1.5".

Perhaps the 1" Knock Out Seal is the dimension of the indented area? That would make more sense..

Yeah 1" is too small, the real thing is right near 1.5".

I estimated those knockout seals as having a OD of about 1-3/8".

I’m gonna head over to a few electrical stores to try and find them (fairly certain Menards carries GB products). Then from there I can get the info to a few manufacturers and see if they can get me some in the same size. (Hell.. maybe I can get them to just make bellows in the same style).

AJ, if you do this, are you going to try and find someone to do a brass bellow to have these caps welded onto? I’m still fairly convinced the real bellows were brass with some sort of cap on them.

AJ do you want me to take some measurements of my bellows for you? Or do you already have all the info you need?
