I got a few more pieces of the wand printed out. I’m really happy with how it’s turning out so far. Now I need to start printing out some of the detail bits.

Looking good, I’ll be interested to see what the total weight of the pack is when you’re done.
This is extremely interesting. Both of my sons would love something like this!
I have a friend who has an industrial 3d printer.. What are the chances the files your using for printing could be shared for use in printing a mini pack for my boys?
Wow! This thread is amazing! I cannot wait to see the pack and ur stay puft costume is gonna look finished! Amazing work!
Thanks! I’ve got all the pieces cut out for Stay Pufts body so I should have some new pictures of that soon. I’ve been house sitting for my parents this week so I haven’t been able to print anything new.
Libtechinit, I will probably share the files once I’ve got everything finished. Right now the source file is a big mess and I won’t have time to properly organize it until after I’m finished the project.
That is awesome news and after building 2 packs, completely understandable to have to wait until after the project is complete to reorganize everything that’s been done/changed.
Subscribing to this thread as my boys are excited to see the finished product!
One last question I have is how strong are the pieces that you have printed so far? Do you feel they will hold up to the abuse of the younger ones?
Thanks again!
Libtechinit, I think they’ll hold up. Anything that needs additional strength can either be printed with a higher infill or reinforced with another material. My sons been running around with the unfinished wand for a while now with no major damage, so it should hopefully hold up.
I’ve been away for a little while. My daughter was born a few weeks early so I had to take a break from the build for parental duties.
I also had a fun little side project I threw together in a couple days for my son. These 3d printers are great. My son was having a super hero dress up day at his daycare so I built him a shield and dressed up with him for when I dropped him off. My costume was one I had made a few years ago.
Back to the pack now. I printed a few of the detail bits for the wand. I’ll get them temporarily attached tomorrow and post up some pics so you can see how they look on the wand.
I have a couple new pictures of my sons wand. Even though it’s shrunk down still feels awesome to hold. I can definitely see the allure in having a pack.
Anything you can throw in the photo for a size reference? Maybe a can of Coke or something. It’s hard to tell just how big/small it is.
Great work with the 3d printing! It’s amazing what can be done with those things.
Sure, no problem! Here’s a couple more pictures to get a sense of the scale.
Wow! That’s smaller than I thought!
Yeah hard to get a clear idea of scale from just pictures.
Nice work!
Everything looks like its coming together really well..
Makes me want to get my own 3d printer :0)
Still slowly making progress on the packs. I’ve started attaching the pieces of my sons pack together. I did a quick weigh in and it weighs about 1.1 lbs. I think the final weight will be between 1.5 and 2 lbs. I’ve also gotten quite a few pieces for my wife’s pack printed out. I’ve got a few pictures showing off the difference in size.
Really need to pick up some more foam this week and get busy on stay puft. He’s starting to lag behind now.
This is looking amazing. I can’t wait to see more Stay Puft progress.
Sorry for the lack of updates. I’ve been firing on all cylinders to get everything finished for Halloween. The packs are both almost ready for painting just a few little things left to print for both.
Most of my times been devoted to stay puft. I ran into problems trying to skin it with fabric so I switched things up and am going with the same coating I used on my Bowser costume. I also had to reinforce all the parts with a bit of a cardboard skeleton. In hindsight I probably should have just used EVA foam for everything. Here’s some pics though. Just started printing the face today.
It looks like it’s coming along nicely. So awesome.
One more piece to print.
I’ve got everything printed and glued together. Now it’s just a race to finish everything for Halloween.
I started wiring up the packs. I’m driving the logic for the LEDs with an MSP430 micro controller and using an MDFly MP3 board for the audio. I hope it all pans out!
