Heyo people, I’m new here and all that. I have pretty much viewed all of Norm’s Proton Pack Plans and I intend to create one during the summer, but the plans are kinda hard to follow. Is it going in a Zig-zag reading format? Also, other then the plans the materials needed aren’t really well explained. That or I’m just not reading it thourghly enough. Thanks for your time reading this if anyone does
Norm’s plans are very intimidating at first but after a few read-throughs you’ll understand where he’s going with them. (I read mine while eating breakfast everyday for about a week to get familiar with them.) Get to know them before you try to build anything; otherwise, you’ll just get confused really quickly. The individual pages aren’t meant to be read in any specific way, Norm just stuck the info on the page and it’s up to the builder to go from there. (It’s easier than it sounds, trust me.) It’s also important that you understand what goes where on the pack and what the names for the various pieces are.
As far as materials go, his supply list is really lacking. IIRC, most of the stuff mentioned in the plans isn’t even listed in the Word file that comes with them. I suggest going through the plans page by page and writing down everything he mentions on a separate sheet of paper. Then look at the list and decide if there’s something better (cheaper, easier to find, etc.) that you can substitute for something on that list. This will take a bit longer but you will save money this way.
I realize you’re a long way from needing them, but don’t use the stickers Norm includes with the plans. Those found at http://www.hprops.com/labels are much more accurate and they’re the correct sizes.

I personally have never used norms plans ( i prefer stefan’s because theyre closer to what im used to working with at work and i dont really like norm’s set up), but i think one solution that might help would be to use a combination of stefan’s and norms. Stefans doesn’t explain how everything goes together, but gives you an idea of the main parts of the pack that you need to build first before adding all the extra’s. There is no real need to go in any specific order in building things, but i myself think its smarter to build the basic parts before adding everything like paint and stickers and all the little details. Always good to make sure that everything you have is going to go together first (nothing against your intelligence but mistakes measuring/cutting can happen). Norms plan’s are better for explaining how all the extra details go together and giving little suggestions for how to go about making some of the trickier parts.
As for materials to use, there are no set materials. The most popular is wood and pink/blue insulation foam board though it seems. Which you go mostly with probably depends on the tools you have access to, however some parts NEED to be made of at least wood to be stronger because theyre more structurally important (IE motherboard, gun mount)…
