Question about original RGB toy molds...

Can someone please tell me why the original RGB figures ( and all of the spin-off figures that used the original molds) only had ONE elbow pad on their right arm? The only logical explanation I can come up with is that it was there because they held the particle thrower on that arm and it would help “protect the Ghostbuster from recoil of the thrower”, if you will. Does anyone know why they don’t have both elbow pads?

Wow. Nobody knows why? Does anyone know what I’m talking about, or am I going crazy?

i know what you’re talking about and have wondered the same thing. but i have no idea why it was done that way

That’s only really the sort of info you know for sure if you were able to talk to the sculptor… there’s two like reasons:

  1. Like you mentioned, it was left off so the Pack guns could be worn.

  2. The scultptor forgot to add a second elbow pad.

I just know that if I ever made RBG gear, I would only wear one elbow pad to see who would get the joke.

Funny thing I read a while back on a now defunct Ghostbusters website, but I understand that Kenner made a run of first series Winston figures with two elbow pads instead of just one, I have no idea if this variation was something common

or not.

Since the Ghostbusters only wore the elbow pads on busts, maybe it was Kenner’s rather lame way of allowing them to look more “casual”, for those non-busting moments.

…

Nah, I got nothin’…

RGB Sculptor 1: There, it’s done. (sends it to the office)

RGB Sculptor 2: Hey Jim, you forgot to sculpt the other elbow pad thing on the arm.

RGB Sculptor 1: Ah, dammit! Oh well, not like anyones gonna care.

…

Ok, I’m out of ideas. Probably so the blaster can fit onto the arm like mentioned. Only logical explanation.

I don’t think you’re crazy.

I noticed but I think I was always either mesmerized by each characters creepy eyes or noticing that the collars and trim weren’t colored like the cartoon. I really cannot complain about the figures at all though. They’re probably my favorite action figures of all time.

The height and weight differences were there unlike the EGB figures where Kylie and Roland were the same height… :sigh:

Think that’s bad? Try getting 'em to stand up for more than a minute. Those packs weigh like a ton compared to the figs.
