does anyone know why the figures didnt resemble their cartoon designs…specifically, im referencing egons hair
also, on a similar note, i was thinking about the differences b/w the movie and rgb pack/gun…its as if they asked someone to design it who had a vague memory of the movie pack…i know it would have been difficult to have all the same details for rgb, but if they had tried, the cyclotron would have had 4 lights, etc…any thoughts?
my guess is the simplified the movie pack to make the rgb pack. from a drawing perspective, think about how much of a pain in the ass it would be to draw the complexity of movie pack a million times for an episode compared to the easier design rgb pack. im not saying that im right, but it makes sence. as far as egon’s hair. rgb toys were modeled after the pilot episode, and there are some differences between the pilot episode and what we saw on tv. if you look at the packs the figures had, they are different than what we saw on the cartoon too; again its because they were modeled off the pilot episode.
I thought his hair was pretty close to the figure? Yeah likely things took on a little simpler design to animate/draw a lot. I think if the toys/cartoon packs were more similar to the movie, a lot of things would be broken off/take a long time to detail as an artist. Those things as they are now can take a beating. Probably all blue as it was easier than trying to paint every different color on the pack. I think they’re pretty good for the time and for being a pretty small toy. I think the three cyclotron lights are cool. It always looked like a face to me that way.
Maybe the four lights didn’t look quite as good without the N-Filter to complement it. The only thing that irked me as a kid was the proton stream was ALWAYS going! haha The proton gun was likely easier to do with one arm otherwise the figures would require a lot of articulation which I don’t recall too many figures at the time having elbow joints.
On the subject of animation, I always was amazed how lazy EGB was at times. The no-ghost logo was seemingly always just a blank No-sign most of the time. EVEN ON THE CAR SOMETIMES!!! In a relatively close up driving shot. :sigh:
LOL Yeah, it looks pretty bad. RGB took the time to draw the logo in every frame. This reminds me of the Superman Animated series. The reason they didn’t have the Superman logo on the back of the cape was because they were too lazy to draw it. They even said so themselves, with the trueness to say, it would of been annoying as hell lol.
I always thought the reason being was they used the concept artwork for the figures. I hijacked this picture from joeghostbuster and you can see the similarities between the figure and Egon in the picture.
All the promotional artwork, like that picture would have been based on the pilot episode at the same time.
Zack - As a kid I hated the fact that the pack had the streams in them so much I cut them off. A lot of people did I think, and I loved them so much more after I did. I could stack the pack in the pack the ecto-1, they could even stand with the packs on in the firehouse, it was amazing.
Huh I, never went that far, but I always swirled the streams back into the proton gun until I got ready to unleash them out, though I eventually ruined the little hole the in the back of the gun by doing this repeatedly that I eventually stopped..
The Ecto-Glow packs and streams had some cool effects when I left them out before I went to bed, blasting away at the giant possessed form of Pee Wee Herman.
And a small twist of what could have been: Kenner was bought by Hasbro, and therefore had the toy rights to RGB. This, in my mind, could have meant that in the still going strong G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero line, we could have the first super-articulated GBs in a 3.75" scale, and probably had some more vehicles and playsets like the Joes. I was never bothered by the steam being always out other than the fact that you really couldnt put the packs like that in the back of the Ecto. The part that broke on all of mine was the plastic squares you would put their arms through. After that you couldn’t clip the guns back on the pack. woe was me
