So I was able to find a relay and holder on ebay (not the EXACT kind as the movie, but close enough with it being so close to Halloween), however I’m not sure how I’m supposed to get it to stay in the black circular holder. Am I supposed to push the relay box down into the holder far enough down so you don’t see the metal prongs? I don’t want to break this thing, so I thought I’d ask before attempting something stupid. Here’s a pic of how it sits now, the box is kind of already in the holder, but there’s no grip what-so-ever, it just comes right out. It’s hard to tell from other people’s pictures what exactly is going on, so any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
I’ve just put these two parts together myself…After test fitting them together, I decided to pull out the metal contacts/rings from below the octagal socket (used pliers) for two reasons.
Unless they were removed the octagal socket wouldn’t sit flat on the Hammond box section…pretty obvious really.
The 11 pins of the Relay fitted easier into the socket and a drop of glue from underneath via the now empty contact holes, secured the relay in place.
Also I needed to trim about 1/8" of the bottom of the Relay main centre plastic stem(in the middle of the 11 metal pins) as it poked out slightly from bottom of the octagal socet, again stopping it from sitting squarely.
Of course all parts mat be slightly different, so this is just a guide to what I did, others may have done it differently.
If your relay is indexed properly it should push down all the way relatively easy, look for the knoth on the relay shaft and line it up, also you need to cut a hole in the top of your project box to allow the socket to sit flat, use some standoffs to fill the area between the socket flange and the box so when you put the screws in it wont bend.
Here’s mine…as Colin said there should be a lug on the side of the relay main plastic stem that lines up and allows the two parts to slot together.
I didn’t cut another hole to allow the contacts to drop into the Hammond box, I couldn’t see the point, hence why I pulled the contacts out prior to fixing the relay and socket to the box.
awesome, thanks for the pics. Yeah, I just applied some pressure to my relay box, and it sunk down into the holes creating a nice perfect fit. I guess I was just scared to apply force the first time, thinking I might snap one of the metal pegs off the relay box. Can’t wait to put my pedal together now, just waiting on my friend who’s cutting the base out for me.
