So im looking around for radios, even thinking I would take a broken one in a heart beat, but then I wonder why no one is making resin/rubber replicas for these. Seems like it would sell pretty good. Does anyone have any info on why this seems to be the shunned prop from the reproduction production circles?
Site member Spongeface has a thread in the For Sale section where he sells soundboards that you can install into an MT500 radio with radio chatter and quotes from the movies and video game, and sometimes he even has and sells MT500 radios with the soundboard installed for you.
As for why nobody makes and sells radio replicas, I don’t have the slightest idea.

The MT500 radios really aren’t that hard to come by; they’re on eBay all the time. If you keep an eye open, you’ll eventually find a deal.
yea i have been looking but dont want to pay $50 for one that broken or cracked which is all i have been seeing for reasonable prices!
I think there aren’t any reproductions because the radios are still pretty common.
If you want, you could always buy a radio, and cast and make your own resin or rubber versions.
Or keep watching eBay. You’ll find one that fits your budget eventually, you just have to be patient or willing to pay what people are asking.
They produced these things in the millions.
You should be able to find one, even an accurate one if you search eBay for a few weeks.
Yea i have been looking but it seems people caught on to our intentions and think that just because its a GB prop they can charge $100 for a radio that isnt even in A+ condition. I think im going to look into casting one and see how it works!
I have looked at casting one and have a nice clean short thin radio that I got for just that propose, but a few things have stopped me.
1 - The cost to make a mold that you could do enough of a run to make your $$$ back is a lot. I learned that with my lifegard 2 mold.
2 - Unless you rotocast it (for which I would have to then build a rotocast machine) it’s going to be heavy.
As a fat guy with no hips and chicken legs, I’m always trying to make my belt lighter, not heavier. So I don’t want to make a product that is noticeably heavy.
3 - Price. If you want to sell a casting of a radio without an antenna your price point in the current market would have to be around $20 and in my mind that would have to be molded in a correct grey color. I don’t think there’s enough wiggle room there to make it worth while.
4 - Like everyone else noted, these are still out there in great numbers. Lifegard 2’s are getting harder to get, but the radios pop up constantly. Until that changes, I don’t think casting one is worth the work.
