rafj27's Build Thread Vol. GB1 Pack

Thanks man.

I took a page from the filandrius handbook and use kylon fusion nickel for the silver coat, and krylon bbq and stove for the black.

Found some gold paint and decided to take it to the shock mount. But it turns out the gold paint wasn’t very…gold.

Not sure if I like how it turned out, may re-do it. We’ll see what it looks like in sunlight.

Alright, its been a little while but I finally got a chance to work today.

I decided to go ahead and start weathering the pack. I tried to make it pretty subtle.

Then I went ahead and threw some talc in a sock to give it the dusty look.

Pics didnt come out to good. I’ll try to post some pics with natural light soon.

Also got a new resistor for the ion arm.

Still waiting on a few new parts that I ordered to finish off the pack.

The thrower is also starting to come along.

I’m also have some parts on order for the thrower, so as of now, work is kind of on pause.

Is it possible to tighten up the ribbon more so it doesn’t stick out as far? I know it’s hard but trying taking a blow dryer to it first for a few minutes. The results will be a little better I think.

Looks better with each post! Makes me want to get off my butt and start my 2nd pack

Thanks fellas. I actually do want to tighten the cable up just a bit, I have actually. I just need to find a way to keep it from loosening from inside the shell.

Small update for today. I finally got around to installing the legris straights I got from janderson…thanks again!

Now just to find some better elbow replacements.

Pack looks nice raf. The SMC elbows are actually a pretty good alternative. Just paint them with some grey primer and if you snip the large part of the orange push connect and paint the remaining part with gold paint they will look the part.

Thanks Chris! I’ve actually thought about doin that but will keep it as a last resort. I actually think found something that might be a decent replacement. I put in my order yesterday so, we’ll see when they come in.

Alright, so I got the replacement elbows in, painting them now.

I’ll have pics up in a bit.

Very Sharp! Me Likes!!

Thanks man, appreciate it.

So, here are my new legris elbows I ordered freshly painted (they were black).

And a comparison shot,

And installed…

No more smc orange

Very nice. You should buy an N-filter and trap label set from me and get rid of that icky n-filter sticker though.

I did get a set of labels from you, lol

Just been too lazy to swap it out

The new version legris actually don’t look that bad once there mocked up with paint. I still think the SMC would look better if you did what I suggested but it’s also whatever your happier with. Also a tip to dull down the shine off the brass on your straights is light a few matches and burn the brass. The fluid from the match strips the shine after a few or so matches wipe it clean and they are good to go.

Cool pack man. You should rework your cable a little. Its a nuisance, but it’ll look good once its done. I posted a pic of my first attempt on my build. I had to keep redoing it to get it extra tight, even though my cable is almost dead now, lol. Those things are BEYOND stiff, so make sure and get them really hot. I always use the blow-dryer with mine.

Looks amazing dude !

Thanks man, appreciate it!

Got my light kit in yesterday, and I gotta say this thing is amazing!

So, today I went out and got a battery so I can fire them up. I went with a 9.6V RC battery from radioshack (recommended by R2DEVO).

The second vid was just a test with the lights tapped in. Still waiting on my led reflectors to arrive.

So, while I recently bought some new elbows, and I just was as happy with them as I had hoped. Finally I decided to fix the problem. When I bought the new elbows I bought 2 sets because there was a $25 minimum which coincidentally got me 2 sets.

Well, I decided to take the spare set of elbows, some apoxie sculpt, my set of small files, and some sand paper to see what I could do.

Heres the result

Just for comparison, this is what they looked like before

Tomorrow I’ll throw some grey primer on them and hope for the best.

YOU STOLE MY IDEA! Good job though

very good conversion!!!
