Real Ghostbusters pack build. ***PIC HEAVY*** FINISHED!!!

I would go that route.

I think that would really look good as well. Something different from the norm but at the same time keeping the overall look.

I added the strips tonight (pics to come this weekend). They turned out really well. Despite being raised, they also have an optical effect that makes them look recessed. I’ve also traced the top of the cyclotron and bored out the holes for the lights. Once I have the Alice frame mounted, I’ll start mounting the pieces to the mother board. I’m getting really excited for this build. Hopefully I’ll have a whole slew of pics.

More to come…

Well, this weekend proved fruitful. It’s definitely coming long nicely. At this rate I should have this thing done in a few weeks.

Here’s the “vents” on the ion arm

Definitely gets the job done.

Since the nearest army navy store doesn’t have hours that were easy for me to get an alice frame, one our new guys who works nearby offered to pick one up for me. However since he hasn’t been in the hobby long he didn’t realize that one of the rings that holds the kidney pad was broken off. However, a quick trip to the hardware store and a little ingenuity and voila:

I also was able to get the cyclotron built and seamed this weekend. Just for grins I painted the booster tube.

What do you guys think?

Coming along nicely. Progress like this makes me excited to see the Proton Gun.

Ben, I tell you this one has been a lot of work but a lot of fun to assemble. Hopefully i’ll be able to knock a large portion out this weekend.

Looks great so far, proportions are bang-on.

Tonight’s progress:

The gun is starting to take shape

The silver button above the cyclotron. Not bad for using a lid from a can of peanuts and a cap from a vitamin bottle

Overall it’s really starting to take shape.

More to come.

Looking good, and the Gun is off to a good start.

Thanks, Ben! After I took those pics last night, I got really excited. My hope is to get the gun built this weeked but may be more difficult due to how the lights will need to be routed. Im also planning to draw up a set of plans once this is all said and done.

WOW, those picks are awesome. I like how the brighter colors, like the red, make the pack stand out.

SPJ, originally I was going to use more muted colors with the red and yellow but seeing how nicely the red turned out I’m going to do the yellow canister under the gear box in a more dominant yellow now. I think the red and yellow along with the silver pieces will really make the pack pop.

Sounds like a great idea.

Looking forward to your pictures. I am sure it will look outstanding if your work so far is any indication.

Thanks, SPJ. Makes it all the more worthwhile that folks are enjoying the progress

How’s this:

Got a buddy working on the lights. Originally I wasn’t going to do the “bullet” on the end but I figured what the hell and gave it a shot. The grips will be covered up with brown cloth tape. This thrower is a monster and there’s something very cool about wielding it.

Looking awesome. Can’t wait to see it painted.

Ok, here’s something new and I hope a well received addition:

I know I know that the RGB packs didn’t have the spacer plating, but I’ve always liked the visual aesthetic of the plating. Plus I like to think of this as a 2.0 version of the movie packs.

Looking really good. Nice job

Small update. I was in heavy assemble and paint mode last night when I noticed that the ion arm was angling upwards so I had to remove it from the motherboard and add a square spacer dowel to level it off. It’s reattached and seamed. A small set back but it’s ok because I wasn’t happy with my paint color choice and this gives me the opportunity to back track some.

A small update: Got the pack painted last night. Oddly enough the Satin black paint I used must’ve been a bad mix because it looked fine when I sprayed it on but as it stared to dry it looked really gray but a quick coating of flat black and voila! Semi Flat black!

The cyclotron lights are being built and the block between the eda and spacer will be finished and added this weekend. then its on to the gun…
