Rocketeer props.

because im done with my comedian costume, and i already had the helmet pretty much made for shits and giggles…and i had a friend that last minuted his halloween costume because he knows i’ll pull him out of the fire.

im making a rocketeer jet pack and helmet. keep in mind, no plans exist to this thing. any where. ever. just a resin kit i cant find forsale that is 2 months rent and no food. and a helmet both brass and resin, that costs rent for one month both ways. this is a SCRATCH BUILT wip, so far. it has paper mache on the pack now, so we can get the shape of the body to fiberglass over(for less than 400 dollars).

and i cant find my hose to make those other head venty things. i think it looks cool with out them considering they also are a bitch to figure out.

to rub in the hard work ive put into this thing, here’s what i did.

the helmet.

its originally a hard hat, sanded down smooth, then filled in. then the face, and back of the helmet were sintra. i learned it wasnt symmetrical, i didnt have the face right, and when sitting didnt sit right, so i sanded it down with a belt sander until it was just hard hat again, then i rebuilt it, making it smoother, and the face have that “nose” thing it does. also the eyes were originally off, sanding it down and bringing it back helped with that. the tubes on the sides of the helmet are some medical tubing or something i had laying around hot glued to look like welds. they didnt stay on before, but hotglued them again and now they do. the fin took three tries like the helmet itself, its made of plexi glass.

the jet pack

originally wasnt going to be made because i didnt have any idea how to make it. but, because my buddy needs a costume for halloween, we went to home depot and looked at all the pipe. then we tripped in the airduct section and found some 6" ones. we did some funky play measurements and voodoo, and figured out the boosters. then we put them at an angle we thought was healthy, and made a box to glue the boosters to. then we finagled a pomade container, i think a deodorant cap and a broken tupperware bowl to make that circly vent on it. then chicken wired it to make that really neat looking face thing. right now its papermached waiting to for that bottom shape and then be fiberglassed.

its a shame 21 views and no one knows what a rocketeer is.

Hey i just rolled out of bed give me a chance. Hehe.

Looks great. I have been constintly on the look for a rocketeer jacket.

The helmet is awesome. I always like to hear people say ‘never thought i could do this’

the guy that directed the movie is directing captain america. Little tid bit.

Be careful with this one. From what I have seen, the Rocketeer fanbase is more touchy about its props than we are.

Looks good non-the-less

:crunch:

Lookin good man, lookin good.

and? ive looked every where for a fanbase so i can get some sort of plans, and i havent seen much. i saw one guy build his out of cement tubes and another out of metal. or the most accurate is buying a resin kit for 2 months rent. not my thing, especially since they dont sell it anymore. so i dont know if your statement holds true.

if you want a site for the jacket

http://www.southbeachleather.com/leather-rocketeer-jacket--movie-replica1.html is the most reasonable, though not as accurate but i hear you can have them add the mods to make it so. there’s a few more like magnoliaclothiers, but their stuff is ridiculously over priced.

thanks everyone.

I LOVE Rocketeer! Saw it in the Theaters…have ALL the original comics. Also..until I built my Proton Pack, The Master Replicas Rocketeer helmet was my favorite posession. After I get done building my fiance’s proton pack..I plan on working on a jetpack myself. Your work looks great! Good luck with it. I’d love to see what you come up with on that rocket pack! Keep us posted!

Excellent props!!! Its been a while since I’ve seen anything to do with the Rocketeer.

here’s an update. for those keepin up.

hey dudes.

we were playing around today, with the helmet. i decided it was time to add some gold to my chair.

image

its still far from done, we just wanted to see what it would look like. i took walmart gold, sprayed it solid, then misted walmart flat over it.

image

we foamed some missle boobs to the top last night, that was fun. and messy. also took off the paper mache.

oh look. a fan.

image

what is this fan doing?

image

this fan is turning. with haste. thanks to my buddy chris who gets to wear this bad boy for halloween. its a regular computer fan, rigged to a 9volt. we figure after fiberglassing, we’ll really wire this thing up serious with amber leds for imitation afterburning and what not. let me just say, this thing is jury rigged up the butt. after 30 mins of drilling a hole with a hole saw into three to 4 layers, and figuring out where i messed up, chris came up with an idea to twist in and out the fan so we can replace it should it break.

fiberglassed the mesh.

hey kids…guess how much fiber glass is!

this pretty baby here, goes for 32 bucks a gallon at home depot!

deals on chop mat you’ll have to find on your own, we get it at a boat store here for 23 bucks for 4-5 yards. you can even substitute chop mat for fleece, 3 bucks a yard at joann fabrics.

Coming along very nicely. Keep the pics coming.

Not exactlly anything to do with the Rocketeer, but I was curious about this comedian costume you built. Have you posted any pics up of it? I would like to see how that turned out.

Also wanted to add that last year I found some guy on ebay who was making Rocketeer Hoodies and I picked one up. It was a great hoodie. It was black and had the helmet screen printed on the hood and the pack on the back. The only spot of color on the thing is a little bit of pink for the bubble gum that they used to plug the hole. I thought that was a neat touch.

Anywho. Looking forward to more shots of the Rocket pack and you make more progress. Looks good so far.

Very awesome

pretty good so far. its actually done. im just keeping it under wraps until halloween. im going as comedian from nam, pre scar, no mask. i didnt get around to making the flame thrower.

no updates on the jetpack.

Don’t usually see a lot of rocketeer builds from the start, people usually wait until they’ve got it almost done to post. It’s cool that you’re showing pics and this is the part everyone usually can’t figure out. Keep up the good work, I’m interested to see how it ends up.

Nice job PC. As a kid, I always wanted one of these! Maybe when I get bored of proton packs, I’ll make on of these.

wow this is great!!! I love this movie and every time I talk about everyone has no idea what i am talking about. Grat build man, just great!

thats actually one reason why im doing this, ive seen people use cardboard tubes, ive seen people use metal sheets, ive seen people use a resin kit. i cant find cardboard tubes at home depot, and i dont have anything to cut metal sheets, and i dont have a grand for a resin kit. so far, ive spent MAYBE 30 bucks on the physical materials.

thanks. i was inspired working in atlanta. i needed a project to do, and i wanted it to be something i hadnt seen before. in all my internet searches, i have seen 3-5 people as the rocketeer. id be glad to see some more though.

ive had to explain it a few times myself. i start off with “you know how disney’s best movie right now is pirates of the caribbean?..this was disney’s best movie before pirates of the caribbean.” this actually speaks volumes with me, because i could give two mouse farts for disney stuff. the rocketeer is slick work. action packed awesome, and fits in with indiana jones, watchmen, hellboy, etc.

Lets also not forget the yummyness that is Jennifer Connelly…MMmmmmmm…fell in love with her in that movie… That and Gee Bee race planes…

totally, thats when she was smokin. id start at the bottom and work my way up.
