I’m still kind of skeptical about the tubing, but I know the project is in good hands and I know the final result will be awesome. as for the trap, it looks like a good size, as long as the handle is shrunk down a little. and in the game there’s no cord, so you wont have to deal with that. is there some way to attach the trap to the leg but have it be removable too? (without putty, unless thats the only solution)
It looks way betterer in real life than in the picture.
The “Rookie” Trap will look like the Game Trap, lower profile, lower handle and the extra tubing and hardware on the side. Send a few screen caps ot that if you can. please. (Have you forgotten about magnets already? :-o )
I will get some good caps of the game trap this weekend. I’ll also try to design the labels for the pack, gun etc though you’ll have to resize them (I’ll send them as a psd file)
Great update! I was wondering how you were going to address the slime being in the hose, great idea!
I was curious a bit though about how you go about actually constructing your traps. . .I know styrene is used for various bits and pieces but what do you use for the actual ‘box’ of the trap? I haven’t been using styrene for all that long and I’m still trying to learn different ways to go about using it for small scale construction stuff, lol.
Thanks! Love seeing the various updates. . .still can’t wait to see shots of the thrower!
great contribution and suggestions Makuta! though I dont like the idea of the trap connected to the pack, I wont be moving the figures waist around so flexibility isnt too big of a concern. but youre right, the trap should be further back, that would also allow more arm/elbow movement.
The trap bodies are made from 0.25" X 0.25" styrene that comes in a 12" length. They are solid, which lets me sand down the angled corners (and drill in any detail if needed). Once the basic body shape is done, it’s just a matter of adding different thicknesses and shapes of styrene (and whatever else looks good) to make the details.
Good call, Sir, good call! Hopefully I would have tumbled to that mistake, but Thanks!
BTW, you can never have too many pictures (just look at any of my threads).
Okay Capt, I’ll bite, where do you get you Styrene and what do I ask for when I talk to the sales clerks, lol. Whenever I ask for sheet Styrene the kinda stare blankly at me.
Thanks for the explanation, it always seemed like it was a solid chunk of styrene but I’ve only ever seen my hobby shop carry the strips, sheets and rods/tubes. Might have to look a little harder next time, lol.
Do you have as much trouble as I do trying to cut the tubes so they have a nice, level cut?? I swear it takes me 5-6 times to try and do it, lol.
I purchase my styrene at the local Train Shop. They carry Evergreen’s complete line and then some because a lot of scale train modelers scratch build their own buildings. If you don’t have a Train Shop in your neighborhood, you can always order direct from Evergreen:
The proper name for the item is Dimensonel Stock. It comes in various sizes such as, 0.25" X 0.25" X 14", which is what I used for the Trap bodies
Guess it depends on the Shop, if they can’t get it for you then use their website.
As far as cutting goes, I have a miniature Hobby Saw and Mitre Box that I use for the dimensional and tube styrene. Sheet styrene I score with an exacto knife and snap apart. Like you, I cut larger and sand down to size.
also I’m mailing out the package today (broke Venkman, yellow ghost, pencil topper) but I’m including the wires you sent back, cause I thought you could use the green wire to put through the slime tube instead of the painted wire you show above, its darker and will show up better I think
I haven’t chopped the origional thrower yet, but here’s an idea of how it will shape up.
How about we wait and see how the goggles turn out first before we scrap them? I will say that Mereel did an excellent job on them, but I would prefer not to copy his.
Again with the green wire? I thought I got rid of that.
sick work as always Capt! both the trap and slime blower are coming along beautifully!
as for the green wire I thought it might work to put inside the tube, and it is a darker green then the one you colored. just keep the bag of wires until you’re done, I think they might come in handy for wires on the pack and gun.
I got your update…right here. The first Rookie Trap cast! This casting shows where the bubbles are most likely to form and where to look for them when casting the Traps
The next set of pictures I post will show a casting that I worked over.
