I’m “condescending” because it’s not even that serious. I personally think it’s silly to be so incredibly wrapped up in something most people honestly aren’t even going to notice. Look, I’m a geek myself, I love Ghostbusters enough to dress up like one. We have that in common. I, however, could care less about nabbing every single detail. There are far more important things in life than chasing after 100% accuracy on a costume.
In the end, what do you get? Other than a few compliments from fellow ■■■■■■■■ fans, nothing. You don’t win money, you don’t cure cancer, Jessica Alba still won’t date you, and you don’t pay off your student loans, either. Personal satisfaction comes into account, I’m sure, I understand that, but reading these forums over the last 4 months without posting made me run across some real fanatical guys. I held off on posting because I’m incredibly opinionated and I’m known to rub people the wrong way because I keep it real so to speak. I don’t mean to come across like an ass hole lol.
I get it, some of y’all do charity events and looking better in costume helps. I’m talking about the never-ending journey to get the “perfect dye job”. Again, it’s not even that serious and I see a bajillion threads on the topic. Who cares about the color, you got a flight suit already, just throw on a damn no-ghost patch and a name tag, grab you a pair of boots and a pistol belt and call it a DAY. Why? Because THAT’S a Ghostbuster. It’s done. You can go out on halloween with your uber-accurate suit and belt gizmos and I can be standing right next to you with my inaccurate colors, pads, boots, etc., and people will still know I’m a damn Ghostbuster and NOT CARE. I’m fairly sure you can be in your underwear, as long as you got a proton pack on, people will know what you’re going for regardless.
Anyone remember The Real Ghostbusters toys (of course)? I had tons of their figures and I can’t remember 1 time they were in their cartoon garb. They were always in some different suit. I was a kid and just didn’t care about what they were wearing. I still have a lot of those toys, albeit missing limbs, and I still don’t care even as a grown-ass 24 year old. It didn’t make a difference to me, they were still Ghostbusters.
I don’t mind you guys, hell, y’all keep the movies alive and are the loudest voices in the community most of the time, but I honestly chuckle at most of the stuff I read on here. If you’re doing some kind of GB shrine and you don’t plan on wearing your costume or going out with your props, then knock yourself out on screen accuracy. However, you or anyone else spending countless hours and money on matching the movies the best they can, then going to IHOP to get maple syrup in their laps is hilarious to me. If I spent that much time on something, I’d rarely wear it and would have a “whatever” suit as back up, but that’s just me. I’d use the good detailed one for photos and my less accurate one for public outings. shrug But what do I know, I’m a n00b right? lol
If I ruffled your feathers, boo hoo kitty. We’re all adults and I’m giving my opinion on this topic, which believe it or not, asked me if I cared lol. If you want super accuracy, go for it. It’s your life and your suit. I don’t agree with the ■■■■■■■■ mentality most of you have honestly, but whatever floats your boat, man. I’m not insulting anyone, I’m just not biting my tongue. I haven’t been insulted, either – I’m just posting based off the general vibe I’ve gotten off this board since June. Nobody in particular
We’re all dorks at the end of the day. Just because I’m less ■■■■■■■■ doesn’t make me any cooler lol.
**I think most of us know that “You don’t win money, you don’t cure cancer, Jessica Alba still won’t date you, and you don’t pay off your student loans either,” but I highly doubt any of us ever took these aspects into account when we decided to work on an accurate uniform, pack, trap, etc. Although I’m sure some have won money in the past through contest, some have helped earn money through fund raisers to help fund research to cure cancer or to help those with cancer. Personally to me this is a hobby; something I do to get away from “life” including girls so getting a date while in gear is not something I’m worried about, even though I doubt I would have a hard time not getting one even in gear if I wanted. Lastly if you owe money whether it be student loans or credit cards then you probably shouldn’t start the adventure of getting your GB gear together, take care of those priorities first.
I can only speak for myself when I say the following since I don’t know anyone personally on these forums. When I began getting my GB stuff together I knew I would do it the same way I do everything else, with high expectations. Of course I could have just thrown something together that would remotely resemble what a GB is, enough to be identified by the general public. I mean most ppl. know a GB even with just the Ruby’s costume on so obviously there is really no challenge there. My challenge is myself, when I do anything in life I like to do it to the best of my ability so to me this is just like any other thing I would ever do, I want to do it right/proper. This is just another extension of myself. This is a hobby and I’m assuming most treat it as one and because of this the amount of money and time we are all able to invest will fluctuate quiet a bit from person to person and these are the factors I believe affect a members choice of what kind of props they’ll put together.
Everything I’m working on today will one day belong to my son, in other words this is already all his. Even though he is only 9 months old and he obviously doesn’t know these things belong to him, but he will one day.**
If you care so little, why bother registering on the forums or replying with a wall of text? You’re not impressing anyone with your attitude. I personally think it’s stupid for you to draw imaginary lines as to what extent of dorkiness is acceptable and what isn’t.
I wouldn’t call it ruffled feathers, more lack of understanding as to why someone wants to walk in and cause conflict where none exists. One more shit stirrer is the last thing the community needs, frankly, and if you’re going to keep that kind of combative attitude, I’ll be just as happy to see you disappear after Halloween.
We get it. You’re a total badass who considers the other nerdlings beneath him. Wouldn’t you be better suited on some kind of Counter Strike forum?
But, I meant if your name is actually on the flight suit, it’s YOU. I understand the accuracy thing if you’re trying to portray an actual character from the film or cartoon as it doesn’t leave much room for interpretation. Besides, I’m black, if I slapped “Venkman” on my uniform people would ask me why I’m not Winston lmao. I’d rather be my own token black guy character thank you LOL.
my accuracy comes from norm’s plans, which were found items, and “if you can get this to work on your pack and it resembles this shape, great!” “you need a khaki flight suit!” my next pack may be using a mix of stefans anally incorrect plans and v71’s but im not going to point out every tiny detail about someone’s uniform, because before those two, there was only norm, which the majority of you FAIL TO REMEMBER.
id rather be talking about why we’re so cool and good buddies, than “hey, your legris elbow isnt the correct model number for your ghostbusters 2 pack” because if thats what you’re talking about, im walking away and labelling you an ■■■■■■■. you dont want to wave dicks with me, you may feel awfully ashamed of yourself.
Yeah, but paqman doesn’t want to be cool or good buddies; he wants to be an ■■■■■■■ because someone who’s never had a problem with him happens to have something accurate.
I love Norm packs and original costumes, but I don’t like some 2 month-er walking in and ■■■■■■■■ on everyone else.
Counter Strike? Nah, you’ll most likely me catch me playing Super Street Fighter IV. I don’t do shooters PSN ID: paqman3d
I’m not trying to stir the shit, I’m just telling you how I feel. I didn’t make an account with an agenda to disrupt what y’all got going on here. After months of not saying anything, I just felt like putting my 2 cents in because I felt like I had read enough of the posts around here to chime in.
And it’s not that I “don’t care” about Ghostbusters, I don’t care about insane uniform accuracy. Besides, I mentioned the topic title asked me if I cared lol. I responded saying I don’t care. Simple as that. How my “not caring” is taken depends on the person I guess.
I don’t consider myself a “badass” because I won’t do some of the things you guys do. Personal preference, really. I don’t think I have a combative attitude, either. I’m aware I come across like a total ass because I’m honest – I deal with this in real life too (lol), but just because I don’t agree with you doesn’t mean I think you’re a “nerdling beneath me”. You just go to greater lengths with your uni and props, more power to ya. I just don’t see the point in playing the “my ■■■■ is bigger” game with accuracy when most of it doesn’t matter. But like how my opinion is my personal pref., you doing something accurate is your pref. I respect that. We just have different visions on costumes.
And from me hanging around enough comic book nerds in my day (I used to work in the mall around here in a toy store), I mean people who could write a super hero’s Wiki entry from memory, YES there is level of dorkiness that is acceptable lmao. I like Batman and other heroes too, but some people are just on a different planet with it. None of you guys take it quite that far, so yeah, I think we’re on the same level, just on opposite ends. That’s not an insult, it’s just what it is. If I’m gonna be around geeks, dorks, and nerds all day I might as well hang here.
And Jairus, I’m not going anywhere. I was gonna stick around, because despite it all, I do read up on some good info. here
my problem is that I have fairly low quality props and even a rubies uniform. I often bragged about how great they were, hoping to lure somebody into an argument, yet nobody took the bait.
While it spoiled my fun, I was impressed by the professionalism displayed by the community and I’m currently trying to adopt these higher standards of behavior for myself. It’s not working so well.
And that’s what I’m talking about, just from reading older topics through out the forums for months I got a general ■■■■■■■ vibe when it comes to how accurate your gear is. Now, there’s a difference between having a dog shit costume that looks like you didn’t put any care or thought into putting together – i.e., a last minute Halloween deal, and something that looks like it took time and you’re arguing minor details and nitpicking.
There’s criticism then there’s just being an elite ass clown about it. Like debating over the color of the khaki uniform is hilarious to me. It’s freakin’ khaki! Do I like certain shades of it better? Yes. Does it matter on somebody’s uni that just spend a good amount of time and money in putting together? Hell no. Between peoples different color settings on their monitor, the color settings on the camera, and the amount of sunlight you’re under in real life or in the photo means the likelihood of achieving that “screen accurate” color slim. Everyone’s seeing something different and it seems like a wild goose chase to me. kanye shrug
The GB2 uni is much more difficult to pin down the color for. It looks darker or lighter in every photo I see of it, so I’m just sticking with black and calling it a day. Would I rather have a lighter shade? Sure, I’m not dealing with multiple dye jobs though when it’s still not going to be the same color as the movies. It’ll be close I’m sure, but I’m sure somebody would find a problem with the color. Is that being lazy? No, because a) I really don’t care in the long run and b) I like black better.
double kanye shrug
I found a board member who I’m going to buy a pack from next year, so I care about accuracy in equipment, just not the uniform. But I’m not going to get into debates about people’s packs either.
That’s rich. Appears as though any reference to pop culture outside of the realm of Ghostbusters around here is shunned. Maybe if I made a witty reference to a scene in the first Ghostbuster’s film, you’d be ROTFL right now. Telling me to “get off the internet” and “grow a personality” is a tad childish. Why? Just because you don’t like Kanye West? What’s that got to do with me or my posts about how I don’t really give a ■■■■ about uber screen accurate uniforms? Mr. West is on Twitter, please direct your hate mail to him.
Other wise, unless you can actually reply to my post and what I said, instead of attacking me for using a Kanye shrug, either don’t reply at all or PM me with insults.
you want to play? because you’re talking to one of a handful of people here that dont eat sleep drink and ■■■■■■■■■■ ghostbusters.
post another long wordy post where you think you’re saying relevant ■■■■ i want to hear come out of your mouth. i havent pulled the “shut the ■■■■ up newbie” card in a very long time, dont make me start now.
Erm, no thanks. Quite funny you get this riled up, though. And the whole “newbie” thing is typical, as if post count has direct correlation to a person’s common sense and intelligence on a subject. Please. I sincerely hope you’re younger than me (24) because if you’re getting this angry on the internet and you’re older than me, please grow up. Pull your fictional “stfu newbie” card, doesn’t bother me any. I find this quite hilarious. How a simple debate over Ghostbuters uniforms has your head about to explode.
