SDCC 2013: Mattel Previews 1:12 Scale Ecto-1 + Figures

I wonder how much the shipping will set a consumer back?

Perhaps they’ll just hire interns to roll those things to their deliveries.

I came , I saw , I pre-orderd it!

Here you go. A Diecast 1:12 scale 1959 Eldorado made by Maisto. It’s a 2 door convertable so it’s a bit short at 18 inches. The 4 door should weigh in at 21 inches, just like AJ’s math shows. Here it is next to Matty’s Ecto, the rear fins are even with each other so you can see the difference.

For those without an Elite, here it is next to the good ol’ Kenner Ecto. again, the tail Fins are evened up so you can seee the difference. The Eldorado is also wider than the Kenner by an inch (6 1/2 inches wide).

Think I’ll buy one if they get made.

Interesting, thanks a bunch for the comparison pics!

I’d really need to see on in action before ordering. Even then it has to look really nice and have some added bells and whistles to justify that hefty price tag.

Shipping and Handling charges will be a nightmare. I’m on the fence on this one overall.

hmmm, i’m going to pre-order it for now, but if the “final” version is bad i may cancel.

but i have to say Mattel have surprised me with continuing the figure line at all kudos to them

I pre-ordered ONE (for my nephew of course) but I cant afford one for myself (since Im buying 2 proton guns, one for each of us) and I cant afford to rebuy the figures with the removable packs, they should have been designed like that the first time

So they are selling a product that they have no photos of?

I should have copyrighted the phrases “ghosties.”

I’d like one, but I think the price point is way too high. I know it is big, but at $215 I think it is gonna fail. The entire castle Greyskull was $250, and it had more parts and more volume. I’d be happier at $150 or less. For their price, it should come with 4 pack-less figures, their packs in the back and make it an R/c car. Then everyone would get it… A one stop collection.

Because it doesn’t exist yet. They’re crowdfunding it. The pre-orders will put it into production and this time next year, it will be ready to go. So expect to see the finished prototype at comic con next year, if that gives you an idea.

Dont hold your breath.

you’d have thought they would at least have a 3d model prepared or something, instead of a cardboard cutout… its so bizarre to put the proton gun prop out there the first day, then make us all wonder “whats under the sheet???” for 4 days, only to reveal a cardboard Ecto and 2 figures that we should have had in the first place.

This has the potential to crash and burn.

Seems inevitable.

I’m still surprised they didn’t start by showing off the Ecto then shocking us all with the wand.

That would have made more sense. I’m still scratching my head about that.

My preorder showed the shipping price was 21.50, so total since I got the bundle with the two figures was 280 something.

Ugh… I thought I was done collecting these figures! Alright, I’m definitely geting the Ecto bundle, but am undecided on if I’ll buy two more packless (and gloved) Rays to swap heads with my originals. I guess I have until November to decide, but I’d rather not pay more in shipping (shipping for the bundle + two figures is $25, the bundle by itself shipping is $21.65, and just two figures shipping is $15.30, so a loss of about $12).

And then I have to decide on the goggles and neutrona wand…

This does sound pretty damn awesome (though I already have the elite ecto-1). Yet I have my heart currently set on the neutrona wand right now so maybe later.

Which makes me wonder if they were trying to get a prototype made, had the cardboard there in a worst case scenario, couldnt get the proto done and had to go with worst case scenario.
