I would love to have one, but the price seems a bit steep for a plastic vehicle. It would be cool if they gave some kind of discount on the Ecto-1 for those who purchase the neutrona wand, or vice versa, to make both more affordable and create an incentive to buy each product.
We may actually see a Prototype by the next major Toy Fair (remember, Castle Grayskull was a foam core assembly when it was debuted).
It’s pricey, but I’ll be pre-ordering it eventually.
I can’t help but think there’s a big cheese at Mattel HQ doing an evil laugh “Muhahaha give me all of your money”…i know for a fact i’m going to buy these, but why dose it have to cost so damn much…oh that’s right it’s a franchise.
Anyone remember the whole Hoverboard fiasco? You know, give us your money, we promise to make it 100% screen accurate, we even brought Bob Gale in along with screen used Hoverboards to take measurements and details? Then, when we got to actually see it - after putting our money down - dimensions were off and it was poorly made?
I know with this it is just an Ecto, but I’m not going to give Matty money up front for a product they haven’t even designed yet. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
Or the Ghostbusters: Legion hardcover fiasco?
you don’t actually payup front, and i’d guess they’ve learnt from the Hoverboard fiasco
They built the Goggles and Hoverboard arund the same time, and the backlash over the in accuracies of both has been big enough to take note, the Thrower is proof of that, as its certainly a step up.
I’d guess they will try harder with Ecto-1, look at Castle greyskul as an example it started out the same and current prootypes look so good 'd consider owning one, the thing stopping me with that is the space for a 3ft high castle
thinking about it a 21"Ecto will be hard to store or display…damn it Ghostbusters is better than MOTU i’d find space for a decent Ecto
IIRC, Castle Greyskull is pretty bad, too.
Rob, what has that got to do with anything? It wasn’t a Mattel product.
Edit:
Mattel has released better photos of the figures of Ray and Peter:
Lotta negativity before even seeing any sort of prototype. Matty isn’t charging up front, and to be honest most of us figured this line was dead, so the fact that something of this magnitude is being considered is pretty impressive.
Gotta say by the overwhelmingly negative response I’ve heard and if you go to Matty’s FB, they changed their cover photo to the Ecto pics and are essentially being torn a new one on there by fans, seems like that doesn’t bode well for the possibility of this…
Be warned…if you preorder the full package, you’ll be waiting a long time. I preordered one and it said the whole thing would ship after Ray is done which will be Dec 1st 2014. The car debuts in Aug of next year I think. So if you buy the package you’ll be waiting another 3-4 months. I understand they can’t ship it until it’s all done but they can’t make two figures that look the same just with removable packs in 12 months?! Oh Matty…I hate you…and yet I keep coming back for more. ![]()
I’m terribly disappointed. After the Neutrona wand, I thought for sure the pack would follow… and they do call it Neutrino wand??? I mean, come on. Ah well, I’ll expect the thrower to be available around summer 2014 (not fall 2013 as advertised, or as I think I’ve seen) and I’m quite sure it won’t be anything near the $130 price tag… try $100 higher for the heck of it…
Yeah, I’m a buzz kill today, sorry, blame it on Matty.
you’d have thought they would at least have a 3d model prepared or something, instead of a cardboard cutout… its so bizarre to put the proton gun prop out there the first day, then make us all wonder “whats under the sheet???” for 4 days, only to reveal a cardboard Ecto and 2 figures that we should have had in the first place.
My good sir they did that to purposely hype people up, they WANTED you to think its a pack, its called hype. Scott knows what he’s doing.
Zakuz, I’m just wondering: why hype people with the wrong item? I already have the Hot Wheels die cast and almost none of their figures… maybe they’re trying a hype that just doesn’t work except on making me (and many others) disappointed…
Has anyone else noticed this besides me? This is what it says on the pre order page for Matty’s Ecto 1 on the bottom of the ordering info section.
A final note… this is a work-in-progress and features may be added or removed from the proposed design, so we can’t confirm anything now. We’re seriously as excited as you are by the prospect of finally having an Ecto-1 vehicle that will give Peter and Ray the ride of their lives, and Mattel will do everything to ensure we deliver as much value as possible!
For $215 this is such a gamble. You don’t really know what you’ll be actually getting until it releases or until next years Comic Con when the design is finalized. After seeing what went down with the hoverboard upon it’s release, it’s a bit hard for me to justify putting that much money towards an item that forewarns you with that sort of info on its product page.
They should’ve not even announced a price this early yet until the design was somewhat in the clear before taking pre orders. I think I’m gonna pass on this and just get the Wand instead. Even though it’s called “Neutrona Wand” if I’m not mistaken. Matty’s got the license to recreate the GB props and they still can’t get the names right? Or is this their own way of butchering a fantastic franchise again? Just my .02
If they’re excited as I am, then they must feel pretty miserable… XD
Why does that Ray figure look like he just sucked on a lemon?
Why does that Ray figure look like he just sucked on a lemon?
I was just about to say the same thing haha. You’re killin us Matty.
My good sir they did that to purposely hype people up, they WANTED you to think its a pack, its called hype. Scott knows what he’s doing.
You’re giving them a lot more credit than they’ve actually earned, it was the fans who read too much into things and assumed it’d be the Proton Pack. There wasn’t anything on the display that was branded with the Proton Pack, the Reps didn’t say anything as far as I’m aware that suggested it was the Proton Pack…
All Mattel did was cover up the stand-in for the Ecto-1 with a sheet.
Mattel will do everything to ensure we deliver as much value as possible!

Remember when this was acceptable for them?
