I was reliving some of my childhood movies with the boys recently and we were watching Short Circuit the other night. At the beginning of the movie when all the robots are blowing stuff up, my youngest looks over and says “Isn’t that sound from Ghostbusters?” and as I listen it sounds a lot like the proton pack power up sounds. Anyone else notice this?
I also think that some of the computer sounds were in Wargames too so I guess Sony likes to share their sounds amongst their movies.
It’s the same sound, yeah! I believe that effect is in the public domain and it shows up in movies and cartoons fairly often. It was recently in the movie Chappie.
Also this sound showed up in the trailers for Lucy (2014), I cannot remember were though.
The sound is also in the Lego Batman game

I’m having a flashback to many years (decades?) ago when I was in a discussion with a small group of diehard Star Wars fans listing every film in which they’d heard the Wilhelm scream.
The next step is for someone to edit together a montage of all the times that sound effect was used in these various movies.
If you’ve ever seen the original Wilhelm compilation, I was the guy who contributed Batman Returns and told them where in the movie to find it.
