size of particle thrower

I unfortunately found a discrepancy between the sizes offered in Venkman71’s plans and the Hprops template. Some measure the length of the thrower’s basic shape as 5 inches others 4 and 3/4. Which is the consensus?

aw, no one knows? I made two basic shells with the different sizes. I would really appreciate a response. I would love to work on it today.

I’m not sure. I can measure my gun box when I get home from work tonight. I think it’s pretty close to accurate.

Thanks a lot, it would be greatly appreciated

It would be 4 and 3/4"

Hope that helped!

your the best, thanks a lot!

I’ll measure my screen used proton gun later and let you know.

Go ahead Dan, rub it in!!

Darrin

Thanks!

5" exactly.

Damn! I guess I made mine to the wrong plans!

Thank you so much

ive been searching and searching: i need to know the diameters for the pvc pipes that are used for the grips on the proton thrower:( stefans plans yielded no info, and all i got from venkman71 is that the front pvc is 1 inch in diameter. HPprops template says 1 5/8 inches (thats enormous!!!)

also, does anyone have an opinion on how to mount them on the gun body. in my original design i bored holes and stuck the pipes in, but that takes up a lot of room for electronics, and the bored holes are always too loose. (im using wood, so molding is out of the question → wouldn’t know where to start, either!)

HELP ME!!!

1 inch, well thats what i did for mine anyways

thanks…is that for both of them?

yup

As far as the size of the gunbox, when I measured Stefan’s 1:1 plans, I got a measurement of 4.94" (just a hair over 5 15/16").

I don’t know why the hprops template has 1 5/8" as the diameter for the front handle. I think Ken must have made a mistake; I’m thinking that maybe he was looking at the diameter for the weld line around the handle. In the front view of Stefan’s plans, the circle that indicates the diameter for the weld line might be hard to distinguish from the diameter of the handle.

everyone has been very helpful. thank you very much. im off to lowe’s to start my new proton thrower

Are you planning on making it out of For Sale signs? Personally, I suggest buying big sheets of plain white styrene from a local plastics distrubutor, if you can find one. The signs cost might less, but you get a lot more for your money when you buy it wholesale. That, and its easier to place measurements onto plain styrene, because pencils and pens have a hard time making a mark on the colored areas of the signs (and often, the mark is a lot harder to see). The other downside of working with the signs that I’ve noticed is that unless you sand off the colored areas off before painting, you can usually see a faint outline of those areas through the paint.

Oh, and I have one other thing to say about the handles. Don’t try to get PVC that has an outer diameter of 1" (the handles are supposed to be 1 1/4"), but instead make sure you get PVC that is marked as 1". The reason for this is because PVC is measured by inner diameter, so 1" PVC has an inner diameter of 1", but an outer diameter of just a hair over 1 1/4". I assume that Sean meant to get PVC marked as 1" rather than PVC that actually measured 1" for the outer diameter.

Of course, this may not make a difference in most cases, since most people would probably buy the PVC according to how it’s marked rather than actually taking a ruler to see what the measurement is. However, this is a good thing to keep in mind if you are looking for a specific outer diameter. For instance, if you saw on Stefan’s plans that a particular tube is supposed to be 1 3/4" (like the powercell injectotr tubes), you would need to make sure that you would *not *get PVC that was marked as 1 3/4", or it would be too large. It all depends on whether the plans you are using give you a specific size of PVC to use (like Sean’s or Norm’s plans), or wether they simply give you an overall diameter (like Stefans).

i just got back from the store without pvc in my hand for the exact reason!!! i was just going to ask inner / outer diam. thanks! so 1 inch inner it is!
