Unfortunately we had a fire at our house, everyone is ok and thankfully so are my proton packs. However I do want to clean them as they likely have smoke damage/oil on them. Any tips for best cleaning products and method to use? I have 2 fiberglass packs with some metal/aluminum and 2 vac form/mostly plastic packs. Wondering what will work best without damaging the integrity of the shells etc.
Leave them as is. Too many packs out there have poor weathering but are pristinely clean. Leave the smoke residue on there and your pack will get great real weathering. Hell right after waiting my Alice frame silver and then black I kicked it up and down my driveway a few times and it looks great. My packs have blood and sweat from their build, dust, oil, rain, grime and a crud I can’t even identify. But next to other artificially weathered packs mine looks realistic.
Firefighter here. I wouldn’t leave the pack covered in soot / carbon residues. Even if its dry you will still inhale particels which are not good for your health. Clean it and do the weathering otherwise.
Agreed! I get your point deltalooper, but like Snooker says not the best option health wise.. currently haven’t the entire house and personal belongings professionally scrubbed and don’t want to bring anything back in with soot on them to spread it again. Man what a process.
The company said we don’t blame you if don’t want us to take the packs to clean . I did them myself with soap and water and a splash of baking soda. Seemed to work just fine without peeling any paint etc! Thanks for the feedback everyone!
