Somber, constructive and kinder ways to look at the reboot

I always thought the first movie spanned a few months, tops. Like August to November. Or possibly spring - late fall of one year, but it’s pretty ambiguous.

New movie seems to follow the same rough timeline. I haven’t really seen anything to suggest it doesn’t.

That, and the team had been paranormal investigators since their college days. Ghostbusters is about their scientific break-through that allows them to eliminate hauntings and how they brand market it.

The one thing I could honestly say I’m worried about is the actual ghosts. Like, Ghostbusters always had variations of creatures --some looked solid, zombie-like, or transparent human forms, while others had more animalistic qualities or monstrous forms. If he, indeed, is planning on “scarier” creatures, there better have some diversities.

There are supposedly ghosts from all of history. Famous ghosts. It will be like Night at the Museum.

The script also supposedly has a T-Rex ghost and someone (I think Fieg) hinted there may be alien ghosts.

Yeah, I think that was with the first treatment. That’s when the villain was going to be An executed murderer, and the cops and army were going to do a dance number. I hope some of those ideas have been dropped. The T Rex might still be there because they have already shown us a flattened taxi cab, hopefully it won’t be the one Dan Aykroyd is driving. Maybe the new Ecto 1 stunt car will meet the same fate.

The T-Rex came from the Indie Revolver breakdown, which has seemed fairly accurate so far. I think McCarthy’s characters name has changed since then and there was a scene intended for a Comic Con that has possibly changed to an Ozzy concert. So it may be different. The way Indie Revolver made it sound, the T-Rex was this movies Stay Puft.

Museum ghosts. Been there and done that. Stolen idea from GB:TVG. T-Rex ghost, straight from the Wii version of GB:TVG. Electrified murderer ghost is stolen from Shocker. No originality. Feig can do better than that.

I don’t think he meant mo0useum hosts like the video game. It’s more like the ghosts of Al Capone or… George Washington or… some shit. I don’t know.

Yeeeaaahhh…I think that idea is sort of bad.

It’s all in the execution, I guess. But to me, doesn’t sound like an awesome plot point.

Better than the police and military dancing in the streets, but still not great.

Aaaand the police dancing on the streets is stolen from The Mask

No, it’s one of the dumbest ideas I’ve heard in a while.

I’d be fine with an occasional (mildly) historical figure or famous ghost popping up. But a group of famous historical ghosts is pretty lame.

Vigo was originally based on Rasputin. The Shandor cult and the Central Park West apartment building was inspired by a haunting documented by Hans Holzer. Gozer was famously documented as a name scrawled on a wall during a “real” haunting in England, and I think Zuul originated from a documented haunting too. So taking things from history isn’t new. But… it’s not quite like a cheesy caricature of Al Capone with a tommy gun chomping on a cigar or hordes of Mongolian (stereotype) ghosts chasing the team down the street or whatever. It’s a corny idea and I don’t see a way to pull it off that isn’t corny.

Agreed!

They call me Cuban Pete. I’m the king of the Rumba beat…OK. That will be really lame.

If Feig wants dancing in the streets, he can go get Mick Jagger and Davie Bowie to sing it.

I don’t really think any of those ideas were ‘stolen’ from any media. This implies ownership of such ideas by the other media being suggested.

Such as the cops dancing in the street. Did the Mask really do that first or is it the idea of uniformed service workers doing something silly is a funny idea that has resonated in our shared consciousness since forever?

Remember, almost all ‘unique’ ideas have been thought of before. To expect anything truly ‘unique’ from Hollywood (especially with a ‘reboot’) is asking for disappointment.

I mean, if we REALLY want to go down that path, the original movie isn’t that unique either. (Typical Hero’s Journey) It was the performances and delivery that made it special.

This X1,000,000.

I’m fine with the dancing cops as long as it’s to Thriller.

Thriller needs to be in some sort of Ghostbusters media.

I’ll only allow it if Thriller is covered by Justin Beiber.

I forgot Thriller has already been in the comics.

God I love those comics.

^that. I’m fine with some of that, but not an entire movie of zombie-like apparitions. I want to see sh*t like demons or something, but not necessarily devilish looking. Things that were never of this world, like a giant butterfly with fangs and actual eyeballs in its wing design, something with tentacles. I don’t know. Just different things, not a haunted museum of ghosts. I want creatures that are sort of transparent and others that are slimey, crawling, slithering on ceilings and walls. Stuff from Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, and/or other mystical-supernatural shows. More creativity!

The first movie had really creative ghosts. They weren’t human-looking except maybe for Gozer’s female humanoid form. Zuul isn’t human, Vinz isn’t, Slimer isn’t humanoid.

The second movie, it’s basically all humans. Vigo is human, Janosz is human, the Scoleri brothers are human. There are some monster-like things in the background, and the woman’s mink coat, Dana’s bathtub, etc. But most of the evil things are human-looking.

The reboot, I’d like to see a return to otherworldly, other-dimensional baddies. Like Threadender said above. Maybe Lovecraftian things with tentacles. Something new.

I don’t want to see an executed criminal with electrical powers. That’s Shocker. It’s also a ripoff of the Scoleri brothers, who were executed in the chair and were crackling with electricity. I don’t want to see zombies or posessed, dancing cops.

I think the bad guy (is it Roland or something?) has the ability to possess people judging by set videos, so the dancing cop thing is probably gonna happen.

When I first heard about it I was pretty put off by it. But it has kind of grown on me. I think it could be funny.
