Hey guys!
Even though I barely post I have been around the forums for quite sometime, having a good look at everyone’s awesome builds and the amazing items you post for sale (I’ve actually already bought quite an amount of things from GBFans!). Since April this year I have been secretly working on a Scratch Built Proton Pack, following the famous Otto Plans.
It’s still not finished, as some of you know making this baby from zero takes a long time and a lot of money! But I’ve gotten to a stage where I’m happing to share with you the progress since when I started until now.
A couple technical things about the build. The buck is build from ABS plastic, mainly 2mm thick and occasionally 3mm. My method of work was to draw the plans onto the plastic, cut it with either a jigsaw or Stanley knife. Then I would glue the parts together. Sounds easy enough right? ![]()
I started with the top part of the pack since it seemed easier to get up and done. Then the cyclotron is where most of the issues began… Still I managed to get something decent. Once it was all glued and build came the “fun” part… Covering all the seams with putty. This was really a nightmare, I have no idea how many hours I spent bogging and sanding, bogging and sanding. I’m quite a perfectionist and I strived for a perfect buck in order to obtain a really good mold. After a lot of sweat and some tears, I got it done.
And here I am written this post! Meanwhile my buck is at the shop getting a silicone mold done. I’m hoping that by Wednesday I will be able to show you the first pull and from there, the rest of the build. And then as I build I will post the progress!
I hope you enjoy the journey and I hope these pictures my help fellow prop makers to join the fun!
