My plan was to put lights and go all out, but i decided not to at this time. My plan now is to give the pack a proper RGB paint job, and put plexi-glass in the power cell strips and cyclotron, I am going to cover the clear plexi with vinyl decal material. I think for something my son is going to run around the house with, that is fine and then I can focus more on his full blown pack for halloween.
Ok so after about 4 hours of work here is what we have:
As you can see it isn’t quite done. I am going to have to sand down the wings and repaint them because they are a little rough. I am also going to ad the hose that wraps around the front handle and some cosmetic pieces to the sides.

Gun body: SKU 088700065925 1/2" electric junction box. It has 4 mounting taps on it that have to be dremeled off.
Front and Rear handle: SKU 811000012159 1/2" X 2’ PVC pipe
Gun Tip: SKU unknown (the lady threw it in since it had no sticker) It is just a 1/2" PVC coupling, smooth with no hex.
Gun Grips: SKU 077578023960 1/2" pipe insulation foam 3/8" thick (wrapped in an old brown t-shirt)
Gun to Pack Hose: SKU 048643025547 1/2" clear vinyl hose (this will also be his leg hose when I get a flightsuit for him)
Yellow electrical tape: SKU 054007108443 To wrap clear hose with.
LOWES PARTS:
Side Dials: SKU 139554 They are rubber stoppers I painted blue
Top “light”: SKU 137239 5/16" axle nut cover
Top Switch: SKU 104035 Light switch.
HAD ON HAND PARTS
The side wings and gun box bottom are made of 1/8" MDF I had in the garage, the hose that wraps around the front handle is 1/4" plastic tubing I had as well, its for a refrigerator with water and ice.
Alrighty, long time no update. I made my hardware store thrower and look what it has become! I have been very bad about taking pictures so I apologize for that. Since my last update I drilled out 3 cyclotron holes, dremeled out the power cell windows and opened up the back for full access.
Here it is hanging in my garage to give a final cure on the clear coat:
Back side shot, those are a set of LC-1 suspenders being used as straps. The light is blindingly bright so I faced it backwards and the mobo witll have a reflective vinyl on it to spread the light over the whole inside of the pack:

This pack was played with hard at one point and I didn’t fix any of the war wounds. I like how it gives it a little bit of an authentic look to it.:
Internals aren’t cleaned up yet but I have a Vellmen flasher and the guts of a super bright LED flashlight wired together.:
These are what is going to light the power cell. I made two 3 LED sets out of the 2 LED flasher set:
Still need to make the motherboard and install the gauge. That should be it though. This has become way more of a project than I set out for.
Oh yeah! I have another Kenner pack on its way to me so I should be posting v2 here pretty quick. I already have ideas.
Wow, check you out dude! This is turning out awesome. You’ve got one lucky kiddo there I like what you did with the Velleman kit too. Post some video of it in action when you can.
If there was action I would. I can not get it to blink. I think i may have gotten part of the board to hot or something. My brother in law who is an electronics tech looked at it and said everything looked fine but we couldn’t figure out why it wont blink. They turn on and stay solid, but no blinky blinky.
Probably a dumb question but have you adjusted the 2 knobs that go on the potentiometers? If they’re set fast enough it will look like they’re solid but they’re actually blinking.
