Guys, I get where you’re coming from… to a degree, we all love to make the funny comments because we were influenced at an impressionable age by a certain mid-80’s movie which starred a glib, wisecracking Bill Murray.
But let’s be honest… you just ganged up on and made poking fun of a fourteen-year-old fan who says in his profile, “I happen to have a high interest in the logo, and i don’t know why.”
I think one of the reasons there’s even a website like this, devoted to a thirty-plus-year-old film, is because of its universal appeal. It’s not an age-exclusive club.
There ARE going to be new fans who are discovering the franchise for the first time. There ARE going to be questions and conversations that some of us have already heard before.
And that’s actually a good thing. It’s a good thing for the timelessness and legacy of the movie we’ve all loved since… well, in my case, since I was Ghostytheghost’s age.
I was fourteen in 1984, and frankly, I would have LOVED to have found some sort of community that wanted to discuss the film as much as I did back then.
But if they all closed ranks on me and snarked me the first time I opened my mouth?
Yeah, I probably would never have gone back.
So, as a personal favor to me-- speaking as a father of two teenage sons who also love Ghostbusters-- do you think you guys can mature gracefully from wisecrackers to wise mentors as our ranks are joined by the people to whom we will someday pass the torch?
Now then, to actually contribute a little something on-topic, I know what you mean about the logo. In the 80's and 90's, I could spot it a hundred yards away. On a t-shirt or Kenner merchandise, on an album cover, in the comic rack. It was almost like I already knew the logo was there, and just turned my head directly to it.
It is almost a perfect piece of artistry and iconography. It was the first piece of visual marketing for the film, and I despised the fact they changed it for the second movie. I was so glad the second symbol eventually got forgotten to time in favor of the original.
