The parade cutscenes

So I was looking around the topics and didn’t see this, but I was deleting some old stuff from my laptop and I had to manually delete the game files because they were refusing to uninstall. Anyways, I dug around first and looked through everything and in the file with all the cutscenes there were the 2 cutscenes from the thrown out parade level. That level looked awesome… :whatever: Anywho, just wondering if anybody else checked that out?

I didnt even know it existed! is this only on the pc version?

Are you able to upload these scenes and share with the rest of the class?

I don’t have a fast enough connection this weekend, but I’ll be sure to post them first thing monday morning. There’s also an unfinished cutscene where the fisherman ghost turns himself into the kitchenware golem (at least I’m assuming, it’s pretty choppy but hilarious). But I’m guessing that they’re only on the PC version, buried deep within its bowels.

There’s nothing really new in them, the dialog is used elsewhere in the release, it’s just a different setting. They’re .ogv files, I should be able to screen cap them but I don’t know if they’d survive the conversion for posting on the internet.

Here you go:

Well, it’s new to me. Thanks for the screencaps, Jack.

I’ve seen the first of the two, but I don’t think I’ve seen the second one.

Here’s some videos of the two, the dialogue for both we’ve already seen, of course.

Cool find, Kingpin.

Cool. Still learning new stuff about the game. Thanks jackdoud and Kingpin!

Much thanks for this Kingpin

Yeah, thanks for posting those because finding a reliable .ogv to .mp4/.avi/etc. converter that doesn’t bastardize the audio is a bit harder to find than I thought.

You see it took me ages to pull the video and audio together, when I did that first youtube video (the scene comparison one) I was using Windows Movie Maker as a quick way of putting it up for the community. Never again will I do that! Eeesh.

According to skankerzero, the parade level sucked, and that’s why it was left out. I contend that as long as I’m busting ghosts, just about any level would be plenty fun.

Also, apparently even with the game release getting pushed back, it was still a press for time to add in many of the details, and they decided to focus on the cool details rather than redesigning the parade level.

Hopefully if a sequel is made, they will budget for a few more level programmers.

parade level?

must not exist in the wii version. I noticed the SLOR level was missing too compared to the 360 version.

No, this isn’t applicable to the Wii version.

The parade level didn’t exist in the other versions, either, because it was cut before release. The only reason we know anything about the parade level is because it was mentioned in nearly every pre-release preview and media piece for the game. It was supposed to be kind of a centerpiece for the game, as the whole story is set around Thanksgiving just to work the parade in. Complex crowd panic algorithms were created to allow the people in the crowded streets to react to ghosts. For a long time, it was the only level we knew anything about before the game was released.

And then it was cut out.

Yeah, it came down to a meeting in which we had X amount of time left. We could either focus on the parade level and leave everything else the way it was, or focus on making what we had even better and cut the parade level.

Things gained from cutting the parade level:

The Spider Witch level got an art overhaul. Originally it was all the same art as the first hotel level. We got to go in and make all the cool webbed up art for the hallways.

The first hotel level got an art overhaul during the Papi Sargassi chase. There was no water originally and was just the same art from the Slimer chase.

We got to do a destruction pass on Times Square. Initially all the buildings were still in perfect condition.

The Azetlor fight got to be redone several times until it felt good. He went through many iterations through out the making of the game.

We got to do an art polish pass on all the remaining levels.

Fun Fact:

No one was really excited about the parade level to begin with as it seemed like a huge undertaking. It was a favorite of the first producer we had on the project. He kept pushing it and kept it around while he was still there. The only thing I was sad about was not seeing the marching band ghosts get into the game. The sounds they would make were recorded by my old high school marching band. They still received a credit in the game. “Rio Hondo Highschool Marching Band”

Personally I think I’d have preferred the parade level to that other stuff.

Well I was bummed the level wasn’t included, but I can’t imagine the game without the other stuff you mentioned.

well, it’s really a question of whether you prefer to have not as many levels, but they’re all fun and awesome, or more levels but they’re all average or mediocre.
