The V71 Mark X ~ Fiberglass Shell

*Can’t wait for this shell…I’m in 100% - No questions asked  …

*Cheers.

So, any indication on the price of one of these bad boys yet? You can count me in either way, but it would be handy for me to know how much I need to save up first! I’m loving these shells, and the fact that you’ve managed to incorporate that 15th cosmetic plate (despite the fact that I had no idea it existed) only makes me want one more! One question though; this PPD corner you mentioned. What’s that all about?

Amazing work. I really prefer the lighter color base for actually seeing what was going on.. when everything is black, its very easy to disguise or mistake something.

Very tempting to replace our packs with something based on these beauties!

Visit the for sale forum…

You really need to pour over all the reference photos you can to get a better idea of it, like the 15th plate this detail is mostly hidden by the ribbon cable in most shots…

I must express my feelings about this shell once more. This time through THE MAJESTY OF SONG!!!

Flynn, where were you with this shell two years ago??? This looks swweeeet! It nearly, just nearly makes me regret that I went to the way of building my pack by myself. Totally sweet work.

Hey Flynn,

When you mold the shell (master) are you going to do the clay-up method?

Yep…

Cool.

I tried that method before but I used chavant medium clay and it was a pain to get out of the support shell.

Most of Chavant 's clays contain sulfur… Sulfur + silicone = uncured or curing issues with silicone… Bad combination…

Also did you use a release barrier between the clay and shell?

I primed and sealed the clay so the curing wasn’t actually a problem just cleaning it out of the support shell was a bit tough since I used medium, so it took a while to clean out.

But it was just a test project anyways.

Just for kicks tonight I decided to take Stefan’s motherboard file, resize it, compensate for perspective only (only moved corners, no irregular image distortion) and then overlaid it on a real pack (Ken’s) motherboard…

And the results are strikingly similar to the fit of the motherboard with my shell, or at least the same areas have misalignments…

Interesting. It’s pretty close, although the difference are too obvious, like the power cell area having grooves clumsily cut into the sides to compensate for the cosmetic plating. Did all the GB1 packs have that feature? They must have.

I’m wondering if we’ll get to see any pics of the other parts you’re casting for this piece.

Also, this is completely irrelevant, but didn’t Ken lose that pack after it was confiscated at an airport? I wonder if he ever got it back.

That is paint overspray, not notches…

I’m cleaning them up a little bit before pictures…

It wasn’t confiscated at the airport it was stolen while in lost luggage claim… And no he never got it back…

Yeah, if I saw the original pick that would clear up some confusion. It’s just paint.

Still, I was hoping the one(s) responsible for the pack’s disappearance were brought to justice. You can’t just walk off with a piece of pop culture history and get away with it. I mean, I know this is old news, but, something has to be done. That brings my ■■■■ to a boil.

Speaking of motherboards, any word on MMM doing a motherboard for this (i thought you had mentioned this flynn).

That is still up in the air, I don’t know if there will be enough demand for him to justify a run…

Was afraid of that… Would be nice if he did, but i understand if he doesnt.

It really won’t take much work to get a decent fit with his existing boards…

Maybe we should just GENERATE enough demand then! You’re basically saying ‘I’ve made this accurate motherboard even more accurate, but I don’t think anyone will want one’. Surely I can’t be alone in seeing the problem here? I’m not saying you’re wrong in what you’re saying, I’m saying it’s the fact that you’re right that’s just wrong! We should ALL be ordering a motherboard like this one! Even if we can’t afford Flynn’s pack shell, simply build your pack shell to Stefan’s palns (making the modifications seen in this thread) and adapt it to fit the motherboard perfectly (or kinda well, if you want to be REALLY accurate). Sorry if I seem to be ranting, it’s just knowing that the accurate part is gonna be really difficult to get simply because too many people prefer to stick with an inaccurate one seems really odd to me.
