I have been a member on here for a few years now and have never been very active. I thought I would take a stab at sharing a project I am completing.
So this project waited a few months to get started and then has taken some considerable time for me to complete. I became very picky about the look of this and at certain points rushed a little bit which also caused set backs. I have sanded down and repainted a total of 4 times now. This whole project started because last Mardi Gras my thrower fell to the concrete and developed a rather large crack from the top along the side to the rear handle. Here are the pictures of my rebuild and paint jobs.
I took the whole gun apart and began to rebuild it. Sanding down the paint job and cleaning it up to prepare for this.
I epoxied the body back together and fixed any other cracks that were found. After the epoxy was fully set. I went back and sanded down any excess. Then I went back over all the cracked areas with bondo building the surface back up and filing in chips. I sanded the bondo down to where it was the same height as the rest of the body’s surface. I used PC-7 2 part epoxy paste to try and rebuild the existing rear welds. I used I used a filler primer which I have regretted slightly as it filled in some detail spots on the top weld that I wish I wouldn’t have lost but I know I can always add it back if I ever decide to. I painted first with metallic silver then I would clear then come back with Black Gloss to cover. I started getting into trying to weather it with a scotchbrite and in some places I went down way too far and would mess up the paint job thus I would end up having to restart. I’ll let the images show the rest.
