I was wondering if any one has tried to have a retractable tip that worked like the top of a retractable pen. Meaning you would push the tip to extend or retract.
Pushing the tip to retact sounds fine…but pushing the tip to extend ? not sure what you mean and how it could work ^.^
The accurate method to extend it would be the green lever on the gun anyway. Sure some ppl might argue in the movie they twist the handle but i dont want to get into that crap, lol
I’d imagine it would work like the top of retractable pen that you click. with those pens the top piece in one position that piece is short but when clicked again it becomes longer. though it might be possible to use the button near the tip to act as the spring release to extend the tip
Some guy did this thing where the green lever pulled the tip in and pushed it out. It was pretty cool and though it isn’t accurate I will probably use it on my next build.
Is there a write up on how to make the green lever extend and retract the tip
I really like that one and had cosidered it for my current thrower too 
I’ve also considered trying to make a hybrid of the two, where there was a spring to make it pop out faster, but pushing the lever back would still pull back the tube and lock it into place.
Good question, the search function should lead you to mburkit’s extending tip build. It works just like the ones in the movie in that the green lever extends the tip then you have to manually push it in to reset it.
I extend my mine with the front handle … I know it’s not accurate but it’s very cool to twist it and the tip extend so…

I have done this but as for instructions 
let’s just say that’s a bit more complicated. I have made a Gif you can watch posted in my bulid link Is In my signature block. I will say it’s a vary cool action to PoP the Barrel and also retract in with just the Green lever, and it was also a extremely tight fit with all the electronics.
