I am trying to choose my first flight suit and I have a question. I am 5 ft 6, 145 lbs with a 37.5 chest. There is a Used Coveralls Flyers CWU -27/P Type1 Class 2 Tan 380 Flight Suit Size 42 Reg on ebay for a pretty good price. Would that fit me or be too big? I would rather it be a little baggy because I feel that is a little more screen accurate. The picture of the suit appears to be a little light in color, but I am not sure of that is a product of lighting. I prefer the darker tan to the lighter tan. From an appearance standpoint, would it be safer to go with the TruSpec suit versus the used CWU-27/P? I think I am being a little too indecisive in this and could really use a little help. Thanks for your time and help.
I rock a real nomex suit size 46R and it fits VERY nicely on me. It’s on the tighter side; not really tight but more form fitting. I am around 5’10" 195lbs so I think you are right in the ball park with that 42.
I think a well cared for used suit looks better, more authentic, than a new one. Based on my experience, I recommend upsizing a bit. 2-inches will provide a snug but comfortable fit and 4-inches will give some extra room if you prefer that. If there is a military surplus store nearby, they may have a selection of sizes to try on. You can often find great suits for reasonable prices. I found a Carter’s nomex for about $60.
Thanks guys. The tag on the ebay suit looks to say Carter Industries, Inc. Any experience with or knowledge about them?
Never mind. Per the great thing called the internet, it appears that Carter Industries makes Nomex flight suits.
I have a Carter Industries CWU-27/P and it is very nice.
Thanks again guys. I pulled the trigger on it. I don’t think you could beat $25 for a Nomex CWU 27-P flight suit. I will let you know how it turns out. Thanks for the input.
