hey gang, i use to hang out on the prop forums, i believe even this one back in 2001-02. i use to build vac packs, but they would end up shrinking and just falling apart over time
i am now about to take a different turn in life… marriage and want to build a awesome pack, lights, electronics, everything. one final run, i figure do it now because once im married i wont be able to afford it
over the past couple days ive done a little homework, but the threads seem so old i dont know if they are even active anymore. and before i start bringing back old posts from the dead, when being a brand new member i figured i’d start a thread introducing myself, and ask for Little guidance?
i was wondering if there was anyone doing pack runs? back in the day i remember MMM making motherboards, and did a search and it seems he is still the man to do it, but the threads were from 2011, so i dont know if they are still in production?
can anyone point me in the right direction on where to start? its kinda little overwhelming at first! lol
Checking the first page under proton packs you will see some current builds going on with great info. The for sale section also has a lot of great sellers too.
If you want soso info, my current build is in my signature but I’m stalled right now waiting on parts to come in. Plus it’s a lot of over analyzing in my thread but what ya gonna do. I won’t say what threads to look at because I know I’ll miss some, but there is a lot of builds happening in all different types of mediums.

As far as a thrower goes you’ll have a few different options. I can’t speak for any of the aluminum throwers but I know there a few guys making really quality guns. I am using ThrowingChicken’s resin kit which seems to be the gold standard as far as resin throwers gun. guys thanks for all the warm welcomes, i didnt know the site had a store! im gonna have to check that out, i did send AJ (if its the right guy im thinking of) a message about his next run of shells, now will his shell fit the aluminum motherboard the site sells?
i was also wondering about the particle thrower? i remember when i was around way back when one guy invented a extending clear tube, but turning the front grip like in the movie ( this was a huge debate because of the scene where egon turns the proton pack on in the hotel hallway, he presses a button and it extends) anyway
i was just curious today with all this 3D printing stuff has anyone come up with a way to extend the tip?
another question running threw my head was electronics, is there a kits for that?
I say check out gbfans shell and motherboard. For resin parts crix has some nice ones cast off aluminum parts. Throwing Chicken has a great resin thrower kit. If you want aluminum thrower and/or parts and don’t need the parts this minute check out vincenzo330 (Vince) as he always provides great quality parts and advice. He just quit his cushy job to do props full-time so things should start to become available again shortly.
As for recent builds, I currently have one going and julz just finished up (I think) a dual build that should be decent reference. Hoot also had one earlier in the year and a lot of questions were asked and answered. Also check out the proton pack index thread if you haven’t already. Lots of info on there.
Welcome back! A lot of guys (myself included) have builds in one form or another from start to finish that can be referenced. Hoot, Julz, and mburkit are all ones I have referenced many many times for my builds. Both mburkit and Julz have barrel extension systems that they go over in their builds, and they are done with the green lever that sits between the trigger box and gun body. I will be doing something similar with mine, now keep in mind most of those were with aluminum throwers versus resin throwers. My first build was with a throwing chicken thrower (which are great) but because of the resin you have a shrunken internal compartment so it can gt kinda cramped in there.

I think it means limited number available. So he has them in stock but only a few. I got mine in the other day and love it, it’s the second one I’ve used. After they sold out last time they were able to be special ordered with a 15 day lead time but I don’t know if AJ is doing that again or not. Basically… Jump on them if you can!

PssdffJay, did the shell match the motherboard? i dont mind if there is some filing that is needed to be done, i just saw a thread where the botton of the shell was totally off, the center notch on the bottom of the motherboard only lined up 1/3 of the way on the bottom of the pack
roughly how long did u have to wait until receiving the pack? was there good communication in between the wait time?
A couple of people have, and there have been several versions of it… one of the more recent ones I’ve seen are by Julz… Unfortunately, I do not know of anybody selling prefabricated mechanisms yet…
