Hi guys, Mike here from the Oklahoma crew. Been a long time. I’m gonna share a thought here that is from my heart and for me, seems to be a way to deal with the passing of our beloved Egon, aka Harold Ramis…

I’ll probably catch all kinds of ■■■■ for posting this (especially from Ghostbuster fans out there) …but in my mind, it may be one such way to keep “Egon’s” dream alive, while continuing to honor the memory of Harold Ramis. Not too mention, it’s how some of us deal with loss…

Now, the pic on the left is obvious…Harold Ramis. To many of us he was a childhood hero and an incredibly talented individual. I can really feel the loss right along so many of his devoted fans. Still hasn’t quite sunk in. Sadly…I think we can all agree, he went before his time. In a way…I wish that whoever started the “death hoax” rumor was correct. Wish it was a hoax.

Now, some may recognize the gentleman on the right, some may not. Like me, if you ever followed the cartoon series that branched off of both movies (The Real Ghostbusters) that gentleman is Maurice LaMarche. The talented man behind so many cartoon voices including Dr. Egon Spengler from 1986 to 1991. (Perhaps it’s just me, but the resemblance is amazing)

Now…no one will ever forget Harold Ramis…whether you’re a Ghostbuster fan or not. His mark was made a long long time ago and I’m sure will be felt long after this generation has passed on. Now I can only guess here…that although all his fans, colleges, and family will continue to mourn his loss until they find themselves joining him on the other side…I get the feeling the last thing Harold would want would be to have one of his ideals die with him. However at this point…I seriously doubt the powers that be are thinking ANYTHING Ghostbusters when it comes to the loss of this man.

Ultimately though, history has shown that time heals all wounds. Life does go on. And sometimes, after the pain and the loss subsides, ideals are what keep the rest of the world going. That being said, and simply speaking from the point of view from a 30-year Ghostbuster fan, how honorable would it be if the above mentioned “powers that be” were able to take Dan and Harold’s original two creations, “Ghostbusters” and “The Real Ghostbusters” and find a merging of the two to keep the ideals and memories going forward?

Again…it may be too premature for this…and if you wanna blast me, go right ahead…but at least where the lore of Ghostbusters is concerned…it may dawn that light at the end of the proverbial tunnel. And I’m not saying replace Ramis with LaMarche…hardly…but just as iconic as Ramis was to Egon on screen, LaMarche was equally iconic to Egon’s voice in the cartoon.

The Ghostbuster world has lost their Egon… This Ghostbuster fan is just saying, perhaps in the future, LaMarche might be looked upon as an honorable approach to a proper and memorable fond farewell to our fellow Ghostbuster, Dr. Egon Spengler.

R.I.P. Harold Ramis. :frowning:

Thanks, and yes you’re right. It’s never easy to be told than an icon or an inspiration has left us. I remember vividly when Lorenzo Music passed too.

Sad times will be had…but good times seem to always return.

Damn! I didn’t even know that Lorenzo Music was dead.

But I support this idea if Egon ever makes another live-action appearance on the big-screen. It won’t be the same as Harold Ramis, but it may be the next best thing.

A replacement for what a third movie…not going to happen. May be some day they will do a remake (its the Hollywood way) but not a sequel. Let it go, we got two movies, a good cartoon show and a monthly comic. I just don’t see how it could be done now.

I don’t see how a cartoon Egon has anything to do with Ramis’ ideals. I don’t know what the purpose of this thread is, either.

I can tell that at least a few folks read what I posted, while the others just jumped to their own conclusions. I specifically said (not replacing him) didn’t I? My consensus is this, at one point it was said months ago that Murray’s character may be the one we see as a ghost in an upcoming film. Whether that is/was gonna happen, my above message was trying to convey, that (if) in the future this action gets directed towards Egon’s character, then using Harold’s likeness, and Lamarche’s voice talents would be an honerable send off or tip of the hat to Egon. Ramis created both the movie and cartoon character, and Lamarche’s did the voice so well, I could totally see it happen. While at the same time showing the proper respect. So, I see NO statement wanting to replace anyone, and I see everything in common with the cartoon and movie sharing a common interest. I was sharing an idea, a thought. Something I thought could happen in the future.

At least some things around here haven’t changed.

Yeah, I’m told steps are being taken to make this a better community yet I see the same old thing :members bashing other members again and again. Makes you wonder why people bother to keep coming back here. :whatever:

Interesting, I had never noticed the resemblance before. Personally, I would rather they didn’t make a third film at all, especially now. But if they did, and if they were to recast Egon, this might just be the solution. But it would make a lot of people angry. Recasting iconic characters never goes down well, especially if they are one of the stars of the film.

I think this may be the time to admit that a third film is never going to happen.

Head to the GB3 thread, apparently they still want “go ahead” with the film…

The child in me that grew up with Ghostbusters would like to see it happen. However, for obvious reasons, maybe it will never happen. Who knows.

As I said before, the lore of Ghostbusters will be around long after all of us our gone…and I think to the fans, they’d like to see a continuing story of it. But if not…there will always be us…the fans that keep it going.

I don’t think anyone would be willing to accept the voice actor as a “physical stand in” replacement to Harold. But I really think if they borrow the “Bill Murray” premise…and respectfully write “Egon” in as a Ghost…then I can’t see anyone more appropriate to “Voice” him than Maurice.

That might also be because I’m a long long long devoted fan of that Cartoon. Maybe even more so than the movies. I dunno. The movies were awesome, cool, over the top, and blockbusters…but when they ended…I always felt the cartoon series carried the story on for years to come. And since the movie makers were responsible for the cartoon…I always thought of The Real Ghostbusters as a lengthy “Ghostbusters 3”

A side note too… I use to frequent this site a lot. From the earliest days of my intros, to the 1960 Ecto 1 build I did for Raul, which will soon become “my” car finally…as well as some shared Ghostbuster stories. In addition to this site, my “KNI1GHT” name is carried on two Jurassic Park sites, as well as several Knight Rider car sites. All these forums and blogs are full of wonderful people, helpful people, inspiring people, and ones that I’ve come to call, close friends. And if you’ll pardon my example…I never get into these “my dick is bigger than yours” contests. (Proverbial speaking of course) but the reason I left this site for a while wasn’t because of my videos causing altercations with certain folks, or because of arguments or bashing as a result of “my” postings or responses…but rather I saw it very heavily with other members postings too. Good people, who meant well, who were looking for advise and help. Someone might show a pic of a proton pack they were working on…or an Ecto they were working on, or artwork, stories, etc…and more often then not…the “behind the keyboard bashing started”

No other site that I’m a member on has these issues. And it’s nice to see that perhaps this site is growing away from it. But my first post in a very long time, a post I WAS VERY CLEAR ON…get’s met with two particular comments that shows pushed me to that comment I made earlier, “I guess some things haven’t changed.”

Ghostbusters is a childhood fantasy of mine that over the years has spring-boarded into so much more. And one thing that doesn’t mix well with it is adversarial conflict. Constructive criticism is one thing…but then again…who the hell am I to say. I appreciate the comments I received in this recent post of mine…but like my subject line said…I’m just trying to share an honorable thought, thats all. I’m not dissing Harold’s memory, or anything close.

Much better now that you’ve further explained :slight_smile: I cant say I agree or disagree buddy. Lets give it some time and thought. Tensions seem to be running high at the moment

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that a suggestion of anything involving the Egon Spengler character in a third film mere days after Harold Ramis’ real life passing would be met with some volatility. Most are still wrapped up in Ramis’ actual, unfortunate and deeply saddening passing to begin contemplating what this means for a third movie and that really doesn’t matter at all at the moment.

It should be becoming near accepted fact by most that a third film isn’t ever going to happen. It’s been too long and there’s simply too many things working against it. It’s time for the majority of the fanbase to move past it if they haven’t already.

So they’re using his likeness, but instead of Ramis being Egon it’s Lamarche. I don’t know about you guys, but this sounds like replacing him without using the word “replace”.

The bottom line is, it’s inappropriate to be talking about this stuff so soon. You could have given it a couple weeks, geez.

Also, it’s spelled “honorable”.

This topic is in really bad taste.

You’re free to express your loss over Harold, but seriously the day after he dies you start talking about how we can all replace him is just ridiculous.

This isn’t about bullying or negative comments, this is just plain bad taste.

Not to mention this was posted with the expectation that it would cause a problem, and was posted along with general insults to the members of this site.
