Just want to get everyones opionion on a pack ispired by the 2009 video game. It is a well made and screen accurate pack with the slime teather upgrade. I know that the game pack is not as desirealbe as the movie pack but it is significantly less expensive. It will be my first pack and since i am not confident enough in my pack making skills it will be a good pack that I can tinker with and modify.
It’s your pack, do with it as you wish. I think everyone here likes a good proton pack, in any shape or form. Depending on your skills, it will either be kickass, or a nice first attempt we can all be proud to help with. I think a lot of people enjoy the game pack, but it’s a real bitch to make. Just take your time and enjoy the process and we will all be glad to help!
I kind of disagree.. Ok, you have somewhat more freedom to design your game pack than the movie packs that have been studied over the years. Still, the game pack is based on the movie pack, and therefore you will need to build a decent movie pack that you’ll then upgrade to a game pack. You might find it to be significantly MORE expensive, if you want to get a ‘screen accurate’ game pack, that is…
But, that being said, Good luck, and you’ll find much help here on your project. And, please, pictures WILL do your work justice..
Which game pack are you going for?
The only one I can see costing less if the WII concept art pack.
How is that so? Is that the pack that’s currently on auction on one of the popular online-auction sites?
As chibigear mentions, you start off with a movie pack and then you upgrade/modify it to a game pack.
The pack is already built. i am looking at buying it from someone who made it. I decided to buy one already made due to my lack of pack building experience. By buying an already made pack it gives me the chance to tinker with one that is already asembled and become familier with the way it was built and make my own modifications. And by less expesive i meant that the fully assembled they tend to sell for less than the movie packs since the demand for them is somewhat lower.
The pack I am looking at getting has everything the movie pack has minus the sound board but it does have speakers. There is also the slime teather upgrade (green tank on left side, light up slime capsule w/ slime on top left, and wand attatchment)
I think I saw that one on Ebay, and let me tell you, don’t waste your money. You can easily buy a shell, parts, and build one for cheaper then that, and then add the upgrades to look WAY better then that one.
more than likely.
I was considering that as well. I was pricing some shells, wand kits, light kits, and other vaious supplies. I guess i just dont have the know-how to build one to my expectations. I very mechanicly inclined ive just never been too good at model building. But I am still considering giving it a try.
concur. That’s a lot of $$$ for a, I’ll say it, poorly constructed, piece of PVC, wood, styrene, and aluminum.
If you have the patience, take your time, read and study these boards, work slowly, and in no time, you’ll have a nice movie pack to wear.
I was in your shoes once, wanting to buy a “finished” pack for a cheap price. You might find it takes more fixing a pack that’s wrong than assembling one from “clean” parts and kits sold on this board.
Good luck!
Good advice indeed. I think I will reconsider my plan to purchase that pack and buy an aluminum mother board next week. Get ready for a lot of pics… and a lot of questions. Thanks.
You’re quite welcome. Just try not to go for a pack that is beyond you.. I am in the verge to finish three packs myself, the only constraint being the temperature outside… I just cannot paint my packs in the freezing weathers here..
If I would have started to build our packs with the knowledge that I have now, the chore would have been easier…
As it has been said, be ware of ebay. You are a member here, so try to get what you need from the members here. You won’t be disappointed. Or sqrewed. Help, and parts, it is all here. Good luck, and pleease, please, do give us pictures..
Good idea, and remember, like they said, take your time. A proton pack isn’t something where you buy all the parts and build it in one day. Do it piece by piece, glue by glue, paint by paint, and in no time you will have a pack.
If your looking for a cheap shell to get you started, I recommend Studio Creations (google him). He makes a cheap shell, and plans to sell his new ones for $50.00 in the future. A great place to start, and is very light weight and easy to work with.
I was looking at Hyperdine Labs as a source for lights and sound hardware. What does anyone know about this intigrated light and sound board that theyre selling?
I’d also like to echo the statement about not buying all the parts upfront and right away. I thrust myself into some considerable debt doing this a year ago, and it took awhile to recover. Granted, my pack looks very nice(IMO) and I feel it is totally worth it, but I’d highly recommend spacing out your purchases…even if you have the money for it all at once.
As for light kits, many members recommend Exoray’s light kits and say his are very good. I, personally, am using a Proptronix light kit, total for both the pack and wand kit was $180, and I’ve been extremely satisfied; bright LED’s, very simple setup, and good customer support.
It’s highly recommended that you browse the For Sale section and the Shop here on GBFans. As was said before, if you buy from members here, you will know you’re getting quality parts and won’t get screwed.
I really dont have a choice in the matter. I deff dont have the budget to go out and buy everyting at once and I got rid of all my credit cards so piecemeal it shall be. I was going to start with the frame, motherbord, and shell. Not really sure where i should go next.
