What are those things???

Hello to all. I hope I don’t come off sounding like a complete idiot, but I need to know something about the Ecto-1’s roof rack. On the back of the car are two dome-like “things”, one is tall and thin, colored white with red lines around it. The other is short, wide, clear, and cut in half.

What are those things and where could a person get them cheap?

Thanks.

The white and red thing is refered to as the marine radome.

The clear half-dish is called the “directional antenna.”

It is now time for you to learn how to either find something that will double as the prop you want, or fabricate it yourself.

To make my radome I used two 4-inch pvc endcaps, glued on top and on bottom of a 4-inch pvc connector sleeve. Lots of glue, sanding, and clamping went into making it.

An important factor of building your own ectomobile is to keep things scaled right so they don’t look silly. Using the original stuff that was on the original ectomobile might make your car mis-proportioned if it isn’t… you know… a 21-foot long cadillac.

For the directional antenna I used half of a salad bowl, but unfortunately the modifications of cutting it in half an attaching the antenna bar to it made the prop incredibly flimsy. I may come back later and try to rebuild a version of it to add, but as of now my ecto has all the really recognizable prop parts (dual side tanks, long single tank, red binocs, radome, and satellite dish).

Hope that helps.

That helps a TON! You’re great! Thanks for all the info.

I am great… aren’t I?

You are the master of non-caddy Ecto’s. I love your car and you are the insperation for my Ecto Impala Wagon. Once again, thanks for all the info.

Spread the word

Seriously, though… I’ve spent the last week filming little shorts of my car with professional equipment… you guys are gonna love these videos when I’m done!

I can’t wait!

Oh please. His roof rack would probably fly apart if the car went over 50. Wow he can glue pvc together, congrats, you have the skills of a first grader. Takes some actual skill to learn how to weld, course it takes a brain to learn. You have my pity for your lack thereof. BAM.

Wow, that’s uncalled for.

Having had the chance to actually drive his ecto this past week, I can tell you that it handles fine at 90+. His rack is pretty well constructed, bolts, glue, super strong magnets, etc.

Chill out man, just cus he doesn’t like your ecto doesn’t mean you’ve got to resort to ad hominem attacks. And if you come back and say “he started it”, well, if you’ve got such a problem with it, why do it back?

No, I’m just going to say he’s an asshole. Doesn’t matter who started it. I don’t really care if he likes my ecto or not, in the past two days, it’s gotten several compliments. Lots of people love the EctoStang because of my enginuity and my ‘thinking outside the box’ just because it’s new and different. Alot of people made that comment, come to think of it. Quite frankly, after me, several others are getting the idea that a big car isn’t the ONLY way to go. Hell I’m down right proud people are going in the new direction with new exciting designs. But I digress, he’s an asshole. Plain and simple.

ps - Bwa ha ha ha.

Man, you really need to grow up. This could be the dumbest pissing match I’ve ever seen. The reality of it is, all you guys did was slap some stickers and flashing lights on a car. Your roof rack is welded, congradulations on that. Your post in the siren topic were deleted, that should have clued you in that you can’t attack other members. Are we only suppose to come to you for Ecto advice? No other opinions are allowed? Get off your high horse my friend. It’s just a car.

Well, far as I know this forum is a think tank, where opinions and ideas can be freely shared. I don’t care how a person makes the ecto siren work, if it works for them, go them. Don’t think you’re being diplomatic and looking tall there either. I’m not starting a ‘pissing contest’ with you either, I’m being the grown up here and leaving gbprops, what more do you want? A gold plated I’m sorry card? For what? Some dick who thinks he’s hot shit on a silver platter? Feh, more like cold diarrhea on a paper plate. I don’t attack, I retaliate, and as far as I can see, my posts weren’t deleted.

I will agree with you, we haven’t done tons to our cars, but they both still bring admiration, by both true gb fan and the general public. However doing all that, on mine and even on boomerjinks’ took talent, and time, and money. I just don’t let it go to my head, not the praise, nor the insults. Hell, I could give a crap for the insults, that’s just more jealousy.

I may have jumped the gun a bit, there are always two sides to every story. Unfortunatly I hadn’t seen any of Boomerjinks post’s that were directed at you until after I posted. I still think it’s a stupid fight, the snide comments directed at you are uncalled for also. My post wasn’t meant to be one sided, but your more straight forward with your insults than he is. Leaving the forum isn’t the answer. All in all Im tired of the elitist BS flying around in here and have subsequently gotten myself involved in something I didn’t want to be in. Each car has it’s strong points, I don’t think awards and newspaper articles or welded racks and sirens make either car better.

Uh huh. Well I’ve never been one for subtlety, I’ve always taken the direct approach. So far as in awards and being in the news papers, I could’ve had the Ectostang in my local newspaper a few times as well. I talked to one of their reporters, on a few occaisions. I always stop if someone’s four way flashers are on, or if their hood is up. I also could give her an article about investigations. However, I haven’t. I don’t go running to the press everytime I do it like a small child looking for a cookie every time it wipes it’s ass. I do it simply because I try to be a good person, and a good citizen. 'Sides, it spreads the word faster if you’re humble, I think.

Oh yah? Well.. I think a '98 Ecto Lumina would dominate both parties! It’s much more covert. All the room of a family car, the design of a police car, minus the look of a wagon. Oh yes, my friends.. I have a feeling if a third installment were made - the Lumina would be the optimal choice. Am I bias, just because I own a Lumina? Probably..

Laughs and laughs and laughs

Oh yeah! My Ecto XB will kick all of your Ectomobiles Asses. lol. So bla!

  1. Never! You’re Ecto XB cannot possibly destroy the Ecto Lumina! It has been forseen, by many, and this cannot be unforseen.. So forget what you see, and try to see what all else have seen. My car, it is destined to be, the one!

Yeah well I got ya all beat how about an ecto dakota v8 4x4.

Faster then a lumina or mustang, more 4wd abilities then a subaru and 10000x better looking than a xB.

What now punks!!

You guys sound like you are actually discussing the pros and cons of having each different car for the actual purpose of a paranormal investigation business.

That isn’t what was being questioned here.
