I have the last 6 months been building my very own Proton Pack. I am now nearly ready, and all i need now is the
Neutrino Wand. I got som extra cash and want to buy a wand kit of some kind.
I have been looking at the “Throwingchicken” wand. Is this a good choise ??
I have the ghostbusters sound and light kit.
The throwingchicken wand looks really good, but is there anyone else out there that you guys can recomend ?

What is the price difference between the two ?
Quite a bit. I’d say a good guess for an aluminum kit would be around $600 or more, and that MAY not include things like Banjo’s or hat lights. ThrowingChicken’s kit I used on my first build and I loved it, especially since it came with great resin casts of everything you need. I am currently building up a FreekyGeeky aluminum kit and its amazing. Vince as well as CPU64 make stellar kits as well. Just depends on your budget.
This may be a daft question, (sorry to hijack your thread mate) but how robust are resin wands? The only times I have ever dealt with resin was fine detail aftermarket parts for plastic aircraft kits, and it was always very brittle. You could sneaze and it would shatter! I’d like to think that bigger, chunkier parts would have more structural strength, right?
They are pretty durable in my opinion, go for a resin kit first save the cash for other things. If and when your ready you can upgrade all your parts or start a second build. Most of us have started with resin kits and loved them. T.C. Or MMM have great kits to choose from.
Depends, accidents happen… my group had two accidents last night… one with a resin wand, the other with an aluminum one… The resin one’s handle broke off, along with some other cracks in the wand body, which he ended up temporarily fixing with some JB Weld… The aluminum one’s front barrel bent, but was he was able to bend it back carefully…
600 $ is a bit out of budget, but i am glad to see that TC resin kit is so higly recommended…
I think i will go for that. Maybe one day in the future on my second build, i would go for aluminum. 
I mean, i need a pack and suit for my wife too… right ? … 
Thanks, i think i will go for the T.C wand. it looks great from what i can see. All i need now is to pay and wait.
You won’t be disappointed. TC’s kit is fantastic. You will need a tube for the handle. You have several options but I’d recommend getting a properly sized aluminum tube.

I’ve seen the TCV3 in person, that thing is a beauty even before it’s painted!
Mine is built from one of Nickatron’s wand kits. it lasted a few years and was well handled before the mount that holds the handle on the front of the thrower cracked. All in all, I’d say it did a fine job and held up very well. There’s a big block of wood inside the front of mine now which holds it together with the aid of two large screws. It has survived being dropped since then so I’d call that robust.
That being said, I’m contemplating building a second pack and I think that a metal wand (body at the very least) is worth the effort (or expense) for the peace of mind it gives.
Another thing to consider is how will your pack be utilized?
Is it just going to be a display piece?
Are you going to be traveling a lot to all kinds of different cons, events, etc?
In my opinion, from my experience building 2 packs which are used quite a bit during Halloween and a few other events through the year, if you are going to be utilizing the pack at cons or events regularly, an all aluminum thrower is definitely the way to go.
Both packs I have built have experienced thrower related accidents every year since I have built them. Whether it was dropping the thrower from various heights to knocking them on door frames, a repair or two has been needed.
My own pack is the one that experienced a drop from my belt where it was hanging, which pretty much cracked the original resin thrower in half and though it was repairable I was pretty much tired of repairing the thrower every year. That was the year I converted my pack to an aluminum thrower. Since then I have still had some of the same accidents as in the past but they only resulted in a chip or scratch of paint here and there, essentially weathering my pack for me.
Now I know some of you may say well shoot you should be more careful with your pack while out and about. And to that I say, I built my packs to be worn and to enjoy my time out in uniform as much as I can. If I have to worry every second about my pack and the environment around me when I wear it out, the enjoyment gets sucked out of the occasion for me.
Don’t get me wrong, I am not trying to take anything away from the resin kits because the first versions of the 2 packs I built both had TC’s v2.5 thrower kits (one of the packs still has one) and they were fanominal. The just didn’t work for the type of build I was going for.
If you are careful and are ok with being careful and cautious when wearing your pack out, a resin thrower from any of the sellers here will do you just fine. On the other end of the spectrum, if you are building another pack that would be just a wall/display piece then I would go resin all the way.

The only prohibitive thing, in my opinion, is wait times. Cost is higher, but not by much. Usually the guys that build aluminum throwers though, do so on an order basis and the wait time can be anywhere from 2 weeks to a year.
The resin kits are great, TC’s in particular, but you just cannot compare the “in your hands feel” of the aluminum. No comparison at all.

My aluminum gun and other parts just arrived yesterday and I couldn’t be happier!
I’m planning on getting a lot of use out of mine so aluminum was the way to go.
Hmm. It certainly sounds to me like real metal is the way to go. But I can see how resin is easier to work with. It’ll be quite a while before I get round to building a pack though, so I have time to mull it all over.
I will try the resin TC thrower now, and maby when i do my second build for my wife, i Get an aluminum one…
