I’ve been wondering of the Matty Collector thrower and pack and the new Haslab throwers and pack, which are the most accurate to the hero items?
Is the Matty Collector thrower compatible with the Haslab Pack?
Trying to figure some things out. My OG pack build is 15 years old. The thrower is an old Throwing Chicken resin body that recently broke. I’m pretty sure I can fix it with some styrene, glue and paint. I’m Just trying to figure out if If I should upgrade or not.
Matty Collector only made the thrower, they didn’t produce a Proton Pack.
As for accuracy, the Mattel and Hasbro Proton Gun replicas both have their accuracies and inaccuracies, so neither is a stand-out choice…
Here’s a few things I’ve notived:
Switches
They appear to be plastic on the Mattel thrower, and metal on the Hasbro one.
Brass banjos
They’re unpainted black plastic on the Mattel thrower, and brass-effect on the Hasbro one.
The hat light on the barrel
The hatlight is practically red on the only Mattel thrower, and it’s more orange-red on the Hasbro one. It’s still inaccurate on the Hasbro offering, but it’s less inaccurate.
The Clippard valve
The Clippard Valve is more accurate in its proportions on the Mattel thrower.
The top silver knob
The silver knob on the top of the Gun Box is too thick on the Mattel thrower.
Some people have managed to configure their Mattel Proton Gun to work with their Hasbro Proton Packs, but they aren’t naturally compatible out of the box.
I never had the matty one, but i have 3 of the Hasbro ones…(2 Spengler Afterlife versions and a 1984 Version). If you look around you can still get them for a reasonable price, but the matty ones are over a decade old and go for much more. For me, the Hasbro ones are superior even if they arent perfect. if you want to build a actual metal one…i think Macks Factory sells all the parts, but you got to assemble it yourself, paint, wire, etc.. I dont know what your skill set is there.
I’ve built a pack. I’m trying to remember the shell I used but when I ordered in back in 2009 it was one of more popular choices that was marketed on this website. The thrower I have is made by Throwing chicken and all the parts on the pack are resin and were added to the shell. Plus I’ve got a bit of an electrical experince deal with model railroad, electric guitars and tube amps. A new project build is more of an assembly IMO
Well the Macks page lists all the parts sans electrical boards and lights i think, for 1600 dollars. I know super expensive, but your getting as accurate as you can, metal version of the wand. The Plasma Series Wands can still be found for reasonable prices if you shop around, but from my understanding the Macks stuff is the top of the line way to go. Your just paying a small fortune for it though.
“Accuracy” really depends on how deep you’re willing to go down the rabbit hole and what makes you satisfied with your build. As long as you love it that’s all that matters. That said, Matty is based off a GB2 semi hero and while a nice collectible I wouldn’t call it “accurate”. The Hasbro Spengler afterlife thrower is very nice, but again I wouldn’t call it “accurate” as it is not of the same materials a components as the screen used version. The hasbro “84” thrower would not be “accurate” to 84 at all since it is the re-hashed afterlife style thrower - it would make a better OGB afterlife wand than 84 or 89. If you want a fun collectible piece these are great.
Mack’s is modeled off the Superhero and there were some liberties taken to make it a more user friendly build (like the opening in the trigger box). Each of the individual packs had their nuances. That said, Mack’s is probably the best thrower you can get where everything is provided to you up front. The most important thing is that you have fun and enjoy the hobby. Pursuing “accuracy” is a journey that never ends.
