Yes. We know you have the action figures.

Am I the only one who’s sick and tired of seeing pictures of the 6/12 inch GB figures, just by themselves?

HEY GUYS CHECK OUT MY GB FIGURES THAT ALMOST EVERYONE ELSE ON THE FORUM HAS. I THINK I’LL POST THEM IN THE FAN ART SECTION EVEN THOUGH IT’S NOT FAN ART. MAYBE THE PROP SECTION TOO.

I mean come on, guys. If it’s in a display/pose like from the movies, yeah sure. Fan Art. Why not. But just posting pictures of the same damned figures everyone else has is annoying to look at every time I click on the “Fans” page.

Is there a way to prevent this? Like, some moderation in the Fans pages? Cause there’s a lotta junk that shouldn’t be in there that is. I mean, that’s what the Collectibles forum is for, right? All the stuff you want to show off but doesn’t fit in the Prop or Fan Art category? Do I have to make another 1950’s-style-PSA to show people?

YES.

mine go in fanart cuzz I add some pretty lens flares to make it art…

oh, and filter effects…like emboss… and plastic wrap

Seriously? People are just excited about the figures, you know the first movie figs we’ve seen in 26 years. Cut them some slack, at least they’re posting something positive. If it bugs you so much, just ignore the threads.

i agree with this, however were not thinking about how much space these threads are taking up. It may even cost more to have them…AJ how does that work?

I’m not talking about the threads, I’m talking about the space wasted by the hundreds of pictures being uploaded to the Fans section (Which I stated.)

Yes, there are hundreds of Proton Packs uploaded, traps, uniforms that all look the same - but they’re all hand made by the fans to share their own work, not a GB action figure’s Facebook page.

“Hey guys look at my action figures that thousands of other people own! LOOK AT THEM EVEN THOUGH YOU HAVE THE SAME EXACT FIGURES SITTING ON A SHELF RIGHT ABOVE YOU.”

So.. don’t look at them. Is that SO hard?

There were a ton of minimate pics as well.. should we censor them as well? How about caps from the movies themselves? After all, we probably all already own them anyway.

If there had been toys available all this time, then I might have an issue, but frankly, I LOVE seeing new pics of them, and what people are doing with them.

Sorry guys.. even though your intentions are there.. your logic is as flawed as those who post the photos in the Props and Fan Art sections.

A few times a year we go through the system and send out warnings and request that users delete the photos from their Props and Art sections. Users who fail to follow the requests are banned for a few days, and the photos are removed.

The really only way it would be ok, is if a user takes a photo of their Toy, and photoshops some beams or something on it. Turning it into Art.

Actually, yes, though “censor” is a little bit of an exaggerated and poor word choice. Straight screen caps and pictures of random memorabilia don’t belong in Fan Art.

I got excited about finding a box of Cheez-Its in my cabinet; doesn’t mean I should post it under “Props.”

I’m kind of a ■■■■ about a similar thing.

I’ve posted various YouTube videos under “Fan Films” that have nothing to do with GB. The irony? I haven’t been able to post “Kevin Gets a Proton Pack.”

If you already do this then what is the issue again? Seriously, if it is such a problem then put a notice or some guidelines on the main fan page telling people what they can and cannot post, pretty straight forward, no? There could have been a better way of addressing the issue than in a thread that comes off more like a rant about a pet peeve rather than a genuine concern about bandwidth and server space.

These people are just trying to contribute and I’m sure they mean no harm. So make it clear for them as to what is appropriate and what is not. No need to rant and basically call them idiots.

Did we ever get the forum rules posted?

It has always been there. People post stuff irregardless, because they are either too stupid, or don’t read.

Sorry, but this is a genuine concern. Its for Site Feedback. This is Site Feedback. A user is unhappy that users are posting things where they don’t belong.

In other forums I frequent, the mods just relocatethreads posted in the wrong place to the proper place, rather then just deleting them. The thinking is to help them to understand where thning go, then to feel like thier cntribution, however trivial, is still appreciated. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen the mods here doing the same thing.

The OP said nothing at all about location. His complaint was about a specific type of content being posted.

Since there has been no real new news about GB3 or any new game, as far as I’m concerned, I WANT to see pics of new merchadise being released, and in a lot of cases, I’ll see something I either like or dislike from a random post someone makes of something they just purchased.

When I saw pics of various people’s 12" Venkman, with the head fixed, I was quite relieved. One can be a fluke, but when you see 5 people achieving that, its quite helpful.

NOT.

ABOUT.

THE THREADS.

IT’S ABOUT THE FANS SECTION.

LIKE THIS, NOT FAN ART:

http://www.gbfans.com/fans/art/ghostbusters/13314/

WHY DOESN’T ANYONE READ ANYMORE?

I’m sure you want to see it. I’m sure news is never posted on three different GB sites anytime something remotely GB-related is released. I’m sure the fan pages are the only place where the figures can be seen and that we should all be grateful for every gratuitous shot of the same identical figures, as the posters are surely throwing them up there for the totally altruistic purpose of keeping us informed rather than deciding they’re too special to show off their amazing collections in the proper place. That doesn’t mean the site shouldn’t have any standards or set forth any kind of guidelines as to what content belongs where.

“Live and let live” only works until everything becomes so disorganized and improperly categorized that the site is nigh unusable. I’m sure you’d be one of the first to voice a grievance when that comes to pass, as well.

My point, is news is fairly slow, and at least theres something new to look at daily here, and to drive traffic here.

If the mods have an issue with posts in the wrong section, let them relocate them. I trust their judgement.

How are you missing this Gareee.

He’s not talking about posts - he’s talking about stuff posted on the other part of the site. Where we cannot move stuff.

Look at this section for example: Fan Art - GBFans.com | GBFans.com

Nothing to do with posts at all. He isn’t concerned about posts, it’s the part of the site called “Fan Art”. And taking a picture of your figures is not fan art, nor is it a prop. And no we can not move those things. It can still drive traffic, if put in the proper place.

Ah… I rarely if ever look over there. (Hence the fact I haven’t put anything there at all.) The OP was talking about that fan art are, but there is also a fan art forum as well, and he also references the collectables forum as well.

But if its space provided by the site for fans to post what they like, I still don’t see the big deal, so long as it is topical, un less its a bandwidth/storage issue. I do recall AJ complaining that people were not using the available space here, but then again the number of people visiting here has also grown since then.

Fan Art can be seen as a number of different things. Some people view “art” as a word for image storage, and pics of figures would then apply, given that understanding.

I haven’t even looked at the rules for that area, so I can’t speak as to the appropriateness of the posts. Thats totally up to you guys, but if you ban images of figures, that’s a slipperly slope that covers banning of a WHOLE lot of ground, I’d think. Toys, custom figure changes, collectables, products, sericels, ect.

I can see removing offensive or off topical items, as that would make common sense.

All of those things you listed as a slippery slope, are things we don’t want listed as Props and Fan Art as well.

The argument is that pictures of action figures, dioramas, etc belong in the collectibles forum - not the fan art “area”, as you put it, of the site.

Site is not forum.

Forum is not site.

I hope we’ve cleared that up now, you guys were making my head spin.
