Perhaps this has been discussed already, but I haven’t been on here in ages, so forgive me. At any rate, what would be your perfect GB3 plot?
A fantasy movie where Venkman daydreams of “busting” the ghosts of long dead ■■■■ stars.
I never ‘hated’ the idea of a new bunch of recruits joining the team (let’s face it, at this point in the series, whether it was made in '95 or '09, they’d have to introduce more team members), but I do hate the idea of the originals taking a step back in screen time solely for the purpose of introducing new members.
I’d hate one of those scenes where the old guys get trapped in some situation and the new kids prove themselves by saving the day…honestly that right there would ruin the movie for me.
Also, as far as casting goes, go for the talent, not the name.
Stick to points like the above, give us some nice references, little more canon technical details, good jokes, and you could call me happy with whatever story they push out the door :\
What if they reverse that? Say the originals pass the torch, teach the new crew how things are done, they have some success but then get in a jam and the originals have to suit up again and save the day. Kind of in the way Louis came to save the guys in GBII, but in a more serious and awesomely triumphant way. That’d be what I’d like to see. Maybe have Winston as the hero that saves the day!
That’s pretty much what I was suggesting in the other GB3 thread. It’d be kind neat if it followed EGB a little bit. Egon is teaching a college class about paranormal stuff, GB had disbanded because of low paranormal happenings, and paranormal activity began winding up again, forcing Egon to have to train some of his students as new Ghostbusters. Then, shit gets really tough, and Egon secretly calls in the other 3, and they all save the day together.
It’d work out well so that the new crew could use the updated/new equipment, and the old guys still use our tried and true favorite packs.
I guess depending on how much screentime they want the old crew to have, that’d be a good scenario if they wanted small to mild appearances.
I would love to see the events in GB3 take place around Halloween…I know, kinda cliche’ (halloween/ghosts), but it could lead to some comical scenes…just a thought.
My ideal plot: 2012 is the projected release year for the film & it coincides with the Mayan calendar’s Doomsday. What if three Mayan spirits that are designated to “prepare” Earth for Doomsday were to possess the bodies of three children–Children representing the “birth” of a new age–
(I know it sounds a bit Oscar in GB2, but bare with me)..near the end of the film, these kids complete their physical transformation into the three demons that inhabit them. In the midst of all this, they “recruit” spirits to build their Doomsday army. Once the recruitment is finished, they summon a “daddy demon” (the big boss villain) to complete their destruction of the modern world.
Meanwhile, the original Ghostbusters are in their perspective jobs, nearing retirement & busting ghosts only part-time. Peter has published his memoirs & is on a promo tour for his book, Winston is the only one who has settled down to have a family, Ray is running a Comic-Con style convention, & Egon is a professor at NYU. The GB franchise has expanded immensely with several firehouse branches throughout the U.S. & the world. When strange happenings begin to occur globally, Egon pieces together three signs that point to the Mayan Doomsday. Realizing what they’re up against, the guys recruit the best of the best from their worldwide GB chain for the ultimate showdown of Good vs. Evil on the streets of NYC.
i like it!
and it could be placed around halloween (the Mayan Doomsday is 21-12-2012).
And maybe… the crews around he world are very busy with the increasing paranormal activity, so they send to the NY firehouse theire less trained rookies…and the GBs have to train these guys from loosers to heroes.
I love the Halloween setting, but the “training” from losers to heroes is the predictable route. That makes it sound too much like those cliche sports movies.
you are absolutely right. But it could be the only way to make this part funny… you know, learning to use the pack and burning something in the process and all those things that could go wrong (with Peter’s comments in the background).
if the rookies are already trained and talented…where’s the fun in that (to quote Venkman) ![]()
lol. Not really though. I think the writers could work an angle like because the new guys/girl are presumably “the best of the best” & they were hand-picked by the original GBs from thousands of other GBs, they act like know-it-alls, but they make mistakes along the way [your comedic element]. In the end, the old skool has to show the new skool how to do it the right way. Not so much in the “training” aspect, but a kinda “we’ll show you how it’s REALLY done.” It’s a slight [fun] competition between the old & new generation of GBs. Ultimately, they come together to create a device—a next-gen ghost bomb or transdimensional protonic absorber, perhaps?–that helps defeat the main antagonists.
yes…yes, i can see that!
This could work very well…kind of when the GBs busted their first ghost (Slimer): they acted like professionists (“We handle this kind of things everyday!”) but they were completely unprepared for the job! ![]()
very good idea !
Bingo! Thanks. ![]()
I agree that a Hallowe’en timeframe would be awesome, even if it were just a bunch of montage shots.
Two things I want: Montage shots and a nearly 3 hour movie lol…AFTER the editing.
I don’t know… anytime I think of what it would be like to see a comedy based around Halloween, all I can think of is “Ernest: Scared Stupid”…
I would go with a plot similar to the Game Version, but Dana should be the love interest and their should be only one rookie. Plus, the equipment should be similar to the one’s in the game and instead of one new enemy…how about two. Also it should come out in June to honor the first movie.
I posted this idea a few months ago in the fan fic section.
I’d like to see the Military work closely with the GBs this time around due to strange occurrences starting to happen from experiments they (the Military) did 70 years ago (aka the Philadelphia Experiment). The Military would be covering up what they did at the same time working with the boys and some “new recruits”. The new recruits would be acting as rookies but would actually be spying (while “on the job”) on the GBs as a way of gaining access to their equipment without having to pay for it (ie back engineer). Something that our friend Oscar finds out.
After confronting the Military about this, they try to get the GBs in trouble (for lack of better word) for use of dangerous unlicensed nuclear equipment. Meantime New York is literally going to Hell.
I think it’d be interesting that as our dimension crossed with another dimension, strange things (of course) would happen… say your walking down a normal hallway in a hotel, but it changes into an ancient tunnel in front of your eyes for a minute, etc.
Part of the plot would also be that everyone would have to turn their TVs and radios off due to strange frequencies being transmitted thru such devices from the other dimension (hell). People would hear hellish screams through the radio, etc. Maybe a good start and build up to the story would be that as people are trying to listen to the news while driving, they hear these screams and freaky images on the TVs at home (say a news anchor’s skin is melting but is not really happening).
Stantz and Spengler find a way to be able to physically cross over to this other dimension via these frequencies which they can manipulate with a strong antenna.
or not. ![]()
I’d be looking forward to that movie but could you please enlighten me about the Philadelphia Experiment? I’ve never heard of it and it sounds interesting.
Have fun:

Thanks.
Now my head hurts. ![]()
