I always thought a good story plot for the boys would be to take the animated episode of “Knock Knock” and ground that story into our time and reality? have our boys rushing around fighitng multiable supernatural threats. Forget having just one “bad ass” villain and have a whole slew of troubling situations and a pile of Entitys attacking and destroying our world. This would be a good reason to have a cameo by any of our favorite villains aswell. I always enjoyed storys surrounding heroes fighting an almost impossiable destruction of the world scenario. I’d even show some popular land marks being demolished just to get the point across that we as humans can’t stop certain forces of evils .. A good example is cloverfeild of course, It really made me relise that sometimes you can’t stop attacks from certain enemys weather they are human or not. Just an idea that I was kicking around awhile back and still sounds like it could be an intresting story.
This is actually something I’ve thought about alot. Here’s my idea I came up with not too long ago:
I thought it’d be cool to let the newer GBs shine for alot of the movie, but let the originals have the last big take down of their careers. Plus, since Winston seems like the “hands on” guy of the team, if they went the TV series route, Winston could pop up every now and then in each series to make sure the respective offices were functioning properly and to do training and inspection, so on. Maybe even Ray could do a cameo or 2.
TBH, I never liked the going to hell idea THAT much. Yeah, it’d be an ok story, but you’d have to be very careful about the ending. If they “bust the devil” I’d almost expect God to reach down and say “thanks for the help guys!” I’d like to see more of a concentration on ghosts that can be worn down and trapped rather than demons. They are first and foremost “GHOSTbusters”, and although they’ve become sort of “the guys that deal with weird stuff”, I’d like to see their (possibly) last film remind us of why we came to know them in the first place. Fighting Satan seems a little hamfisted, and I think it’d be cool to see them come up with a crazy plan to try and trap whtever it is they’re fighting. Afterward, one of the newbies wonders if they just put a dent in their job security and then someone else says “nah, as long as bad people keep dying, we’ve got a job to do” (or something like that?). End with a montage of GB inc running smoothly with the original Ray Parker Jr. version of the song playing (save a remix for the mid-movie montage of the newbies investigating just what is going on).
Thoughts?
ok my basic idea:
No going out of Business, first of all…
The Ghostbusters remain active since the video game events…
The original GBs get older over the years, and need fresh blood to keep their franchise open…
Egon, and Venkman retire from active duty but handle the company from behind the scenes, Egon handling R&D, and Venkman of course would handle company business…
There would be mention of other franchises all over the nation, and possibly over seas…
Ray and Winston still do Busts, and you would have a moment in the Ecto-1 between the two where they chat and B.S. in a similar fashion to that quarter punter with cheese convo between sam jackson and travolta from pulp fiction, while the two busters discuss getting older, and all the good times they had back in the day…
They then get back to HQ pull Ray pulls a smoking trap from the car and looks at winston “still got it”…
They walk into venkman’s office and report in, as Venkman and Egon are talking company turkey, and peter asks… “so… how’s the new guy working for ya?” and ray and winston look back toward the car to see the new guy hop out of the back of the Ecto with three smoking traps, comedically implying that he out-did the old timers.
He would already be there as a new recruit for the purposes of showing the audience that they were recruiting new talent, and then you would have two more join later on to complete the team.
At least that’s how I would have done it.
I’d also introduce new vehicle like an SUV or somthing more modern for the new team and call it the Ecto-2… The Ecto-1 would still be there as well, but Winston loves that car too much to let rookies drive her.
Well, I don’t have any real opinions on side plots or character development since GBII; however, I am interesting in figuring out what is the primary plot device for the third film.
I would love to see them maybe revisit the prediction made by the woman on “World of the Psychic” that claims a space alien told her that the world would come to an end on February 14, 2016. The film would be coming out in 2011 at the earliest, so they could just move the setting forward by 5 years and get away with it. Milton Angland was correct with his prediction, so why not allow her to be right too? Could be a fun little nod to GBII.
Perhaps they could also visit the the Mayan Doomsday that occurs on December 21, 2012. This would be in keeping with the New Year/ Christmas/ Thanksgiving timeframe that the movies and videogame often use and would be relevant to current events going on around the movie’s release (assuming a 2011/ 2012 release). Only real problem with this is that Roland Emmerich has a film called 2012 about this very event coming out this November.
I also wouldn’t mind seeing more Gozer/ Ivo Shandor stuff. They could have so much more fun with those characters.
NO ALIENS! They’re GHOST-busters, not Weird stuff busters! Aliens already ruined one classic 80s franchise! Let’s save this one!
However, I do like the idea of incorporating the December 2012 date in the story. If you took the story I posted earlier and said that GB Inc was set to open on Christmas Day or January 1st or something and the ghosts decided to attack on the mayan end of the world and it was all tied into some prophecy no one thought was real…that could be sick as heck!
Also, I had the idea that one of the recruits should be a college kid who has been running Ray’s shop ever since GBs got back into action. After years of hard work and loyalty running Ray’s Occult, he gets the ultimate promotion (preferably played by Bill Hader).
I like lots of the ideas put forward but no outshining the original members, I find that it would undermine their purpose. I’d like them to be the be all and end all, any other new members would serve to compliment them, not out do them. The original 4 are like the Yodas of busting. If there’s a military thing going on in the plot that’s cool too so long as it doesnt become a military and the ghostbusters thing, like what we’ve seen in Transformers but l doubt that would happen since this won’t be a Bay flick hehe.
The team find themselves in a situation where paranormal activity is swelling and oozing throughout the city. However, much to our amusement they are getting too old to phisically deal with all that traping a ghost entails, so what can they do? They go back.. to Columbia University to the Paranormal Studies department to recruit the nerdiest nerds who would jump at the chance to chase after ghosts with some real equipment. They have their own ideas and some new gadgets, but have no idea of actually how to catch a ghost or what to do with it. …to be continued…
yeah i wouldn’t want to outshine them either, I just suggested the one rookie has more traps to illustrate the originals’ age… there is always the flaw of the newbie getting too cocky, which is one thing the more experienced ghostbusters would always have an advantage over even over young blood. For the rookie, it’s more of a "Ha I’m the man… trips over his own shoes mid sentence deals for comedy purposes… He’s learn that just because he has more energy doesn’t make him better than the old guys and he would have much to learn still…
Of course him being cocky would make him sort of the Venkman/Garrett of the group… lol.
The old guys would still come out on top… I wouldn’t have it any other way.
-
The original team make one last bust where they almost get their ass kicked.
-
They decide to pick up doctorate students (no goddamn stupid emo/punk college student), we need REAL scientists.
-
The new guys don’t have to be stereotyped, no super intelligent dude neither charmer one.
-
Only ONE girl in the team + No love stories, those are useless most of the time (hi to Venkman and Illyssa).
-
Slimer is not a puppet but still a subject of experiments.
-
They expand the franchise AFTER GB IV (if we consider the video game as GB III).
I agree…especially in #6. I want a GBFranchise expansion after GBIV, but even if the game is not considered GBIII and they do make a part III and part IV.
I actually think the whole going to hell thing would just be the end of Ghostbusters timeline. I mean, if they fight the Devil then…that’s it. There is nothing else more bigger and more evil then that to BUST. Plus the whole ending with…well look at the spolier posted. Where was I…oh yeah the ending. Well the whole ending thing with Shandor having a destructive form that looks like the Devil is not how the realy guy would look. Shandor just looked like a more giant human with big horns on his head…if he was made of cooled lava
Who says they all have to be students… Winston was some guy they hired off the street.
If you make em all 18 or 19, then you have already conformed to a stereotype, that all next gen characters have to be teenage brats… throw in an adult or two… 20s, even 30s… why not… 40s would be pushing it, but they don’t need to all be students… they don’t all have to be scientists either… Again This guy >>> ![]()
The idea is you want a character chemistry dynamic… that won’t happen if they are all from the same walk of life… maybe one or two could be science minded, another could be a good mechanic, and another could just be in it for the paycheck, or for the rush… or whatever…
The franchiseing thing already was mentioned in the game, and personally it is the next logical step, so i say go for it., just not in the movie, because the movie should be about the NY ghostbusters, a nod to franchising would be nice though.
some people just get soooooo nitpicky… :walterpeck:
I agree about what you say about a nod to Franchising(like in GB:TVG)because GBIII should involve a new group with there own personalities and it should revolve around the NY Ghostbusters, but the OGB’s have to still be in business and they should still work. Maybe two or three problems as being older GB’s, but they should still work, while mentoring the new guys and new gal. I think there should be one Girl Ghostbuster and all new GB’s should be in there mid too late twenties and they definetly shouldn’t be students…maybe they have realtions to the GB’s in certain way and/or they were hired off the street, but no love story between two GB characters(Girl GB x Guy GB). Just a Venkman x Insert-name-of-Love-interest kinda relationship.
You just did not read my post.
I said DOCTORATE student. If you attempt to get a doctorate and if you’re not Shannon or Einstein, you have to be around 25-30 years old to get it.
I consider Ghostbusters as a science-fiction film implying SCIENTISTS STUDYING paranormal things. Remember that Winston first draw was a highly diplomed guy, not an “average guy”.
Moreover, I said that we should have to wait for Ramis or Aykroyd to confirm if we consider GB:TVG as GBIII (maybe it has already been answered, I didn’t checked) and thus, if it’s canon or not.
tl;dr: Learn to read.
I don’t think they should all have to be scientists either. The only ones that needed to be scientists were the originals, as they developed, and continue developing the research and technologies for the company. If there were going to be any requirements on who they hired, it should be something like you have to be at least 18, or 21, or you have to have your associate’s degree, or something along those lines. Winston, outside of his military service, which alot of people have done, WAS an average guy. As part of the original team, though, he probably felt it best that he get a doctorate as well to be able to help with the aforementioned continuing developments for the company. For the franchises, as long as they have instruction manuals, a science background isn’t necessary. Just a willingness to do the job at hand. This is the point where we get into a little bit more of what was in Dan’s first draft of GB1. They had multiple teams and employees, none with any specific technical or scientific background. They were hired to do a job, they followed the instructions and did it. I’m sure the rookie was just a guy who answered a help wanted add too.
And I don’t think it was ever a question if the game was canon or not. It definitely is.
Getting all nasty fanboy on me now are we?
:walterpeck:
You really need to learn to take some mild criticism with a better nature instead of getting personal.
Dude, go to hell, you’re the first saying i’m nitpicking and I’m not expecting any criticism since I’m only giving MY idea of what GB IV should be.
I seriously don’t care about your opinion: for me, there are two kind of fans:
Those who are intelligent enough to enjoy the technobabble things and the scientist aspect and those who only like it because GHOSTBUSTING IS BADASS, U DESTROY EVERYTHING WITH YO LAZAH!!1!one!
Bet you’re the second kind.
Any average guy just could NOT be a ghostbuster since it’s not like fixing plumbery but i’ll bet you’ll say once again: “duuuh, Winston was in it so everybody can”.
Again… angry nitpicky fan… Learn to relax… your blood preassure is going to overload… i’m serious. :walterpeck:
But i’m not going to waste my time arguing with you, and bring the rest of this thread down. If you want to be the angry argumentitive fan (The third type you forgot) then go ahead… I’m moving on.
Personally I don’t think all of them should be Doctorates, but with the idea of GB franchising and spreading out, it makes sense that you’d need some level of education. I mean it even makes sense considering a Associates degree is the new High School diploma. Everyone has degrees in something now-a-days.
And if the idea of GB is to be like Firefighters, police, EMTs etc, having a degree or trade school experience at least makes sense. I mean think about you can barely get a job at Buger King right now without a HS diploma, just getting hired off the street for a desirable job is a thing of the past.
But personally I think the doctorates should be reserved for the upper brass, the whole GB franchise can’t be Drs running around. But they can all be knowledgeable. anyways that’s my 2 cents
Very true… You can’t even be a cop anymore without an associates degree…
And the franchises should have some actual paranormal experts.
It just seems a bit cheesy to me to have everyone have a PHD… lol.
Someone that has law enforcement experience or mechanical expertise and stuff could easily apply for the legwork aspect.
It also plays down the character of the science geeks if they are all science geeks, that’s why Kirk only had one Spock in star trek.
