About the GB I & II Blu-Ray Cover Art...

I’ve seen a few pics around the net in advertisements (like the one on the front page of this site) and the pic is of the last DVD release with the green slime background, only in a bluray case. I was never really fond of that cover art, so please tell me thats just a temperary image. Has the official art been released yet? And what would you guys prefer?

The green slime coughjellocouch* covers

  • The covers for the single DVD releases before the slim covers

*The classic black background with “No Ghost” logo?

Most likely, we’ve been shown the final product. However, the bright green cover does stand out on my DVD shelf compared to the darker colors of the rest of them. It is kind of a refreshing break in the nearly monochromatic shades of black on other DVD cases.

If I got to pick what would be on the cover of my DVD, I would choose nothing more than the black background with the logo. No writing, no credits; save all that for the back. On the spine I would love to see the black background with the title back lit by that soft blue glow–which would aesthetically compliment the blue plastic of the case.

yeah, black cover with the logo only. i don’t like the slime covers either.

I hate the green slime covers.

That would be great, I’ve always loved the black cover and the GHOSTBUSTERS name with the soft blue glow. If they wanted to get fancy, have the black background with the No Ghost logo but make the red sign a sorta red shiny foil, with a blu shiny foil to the GHOSTBUSTERS name. But honestly, anything but the green Jello.

:whatever: “I hate Jello”

 “There’s always room for Jello”

:sigh: “Not on our new BluRay DVD Cover, there’s not!”

Yeah, im not a fan of the slime covers, either. I would like for them to create an original cover. Something similar, but not the same as the 1999 DVDs.

…

But I LOVE the slime covers…

I always preferred the classic jet black background with the GB logo, as seen on the original Ghostbusters 1 vhs tape (which I still have somewhere, even though its beat up) - I dont mind the “updated” slime covers, but they seem to be more “kid-friendly” - then when they released the movies onto dvd, they had the poorly designed and poorly thought out renditions of all 4 GBers on the GB1 dvd and only the original 3 GBers on the GB2 dvd…

the GB1 dvd actually wasnt that bad, but the GB2 dvd made no sense to have the original 3 (like the original artwork for the first movie), more importantly, what was the artist thinking? the proton beams are basically going backwards over their heads!

if I had to pick an end-all be-all dvd artwork style for both movies, I’d use some form of the movie poster artwork

For me, an all metallic black slip case - shiny black, with JUST the logo on the front and ‘GHOSTBUSTERS’ with the O as the no ghost logo would ROCK my socks. It’s like the Apple Computers mantra. Simple.

Besides that, with the logo being #2 most recognized logo in the known universe, does it really NEED anything more?

i dabble in graphic design… the green slime covers make me want to scream. it honestly looks like it was designed by someone that just discovered layer styles in photoshop.

trash, trash, trash…

c’mon sony… you can do better!

*I tend to like these done by “gh0st” on the other other forum ;-):

*The only thing I wish he hadn’t changed was the original letter font :sigh: …

*Cheers.

*Or we can stick with the “oldie-but-goodies”:

*Cheers.

Same here…

I never liked them slime covers… They look incredibly cheap.

Oh well, they’re probably saving those original poster images for a future ‘definitive edition’ or ‘ultimate edition’ release…

The Ghostbusters movies aren’t the only ones though…

Same goes for the Star Wars DVDs… Instead of the original poster designs , they always put some cheap ‘my 13 year old daughter can work with Photoshop’ collages on the covers.

Rest assured that it means another release will show up sooner or later…

Things were very different in the old video cassette days… Agreed, the image quality of the movie was far inferior, but at least we got the original dang posters on the cassette covers.

I like the 2005 Austrailia Releases:

http://www.gbfans.com/ghostbusters/releases/2005-dvd-boxset-australia/

the aussie cover art is definitely better than stateside. the big thing that gets me about the green jello covers, aside from the bad “emboss” photoshop work, is that the stinking no-ghost logo is rotated. WHY?! why why why why why?!

i would LOVE a nice, matte black steelbook edition.

That’s how it is in foreign markets.

I guess the brilliant marketing strategy that everything needs to be flashy and appealing or people will think it’s an old release of Ghostbusters or something.

I too would like something kinda basic and still sleek. Maybe just an embossed foil stamped version of the movies posters or something. :whatever: I dunno.

Anything but flubber cover would almost be welcomed but I guess that’s what we’re getting. At least the video game looks to be going with just the logo on black.

that’s what gets me… it’s the same cover as the previous release. it seems that the would have to do something different to the new DVD cover to differentiate it from the 05 release.

blah.

good thing i store my discs in a binder, i guess… here’s hoping for nice disc art.

Anybody have any idea what movie the shot on the back of the '99 GB2 dvd is from? It’s clearly not from GB2. I don’t remember cops in some sort of stand off or helicopters buzzing around the Statue of Liberty???

Its a photoshop.

I believe parts of it were from Under Seige 2 or something.
